Role expectations - Our Expectation of all Engineering Managers:
Demonstrated experience in leading full-cycle people management practices, including coaching, performance management, career development, conflict resolution, and corrective action [PIPs] when needed.
Proactively recognizing and addressing personal challenges for direct reports using available resources at Peach
Keeps abreast of Peach's company-wide goals and vision to ensure the team has the skills and resources to be able to support the business accordingly
Able to translate between engineering and product/business needs and manage expectations on behalf of their reports.
Demonstrates strength in long-term (12 months) capacity planning and leads sustainability and resilience initiatives.
Manages shifting priorities, unplanned work, and scope creep to ensure consistent pod delivery.
Sets performance expectations, manages workflows, and strategic salary adjustments, with support from our PeopleOps team.
Is able to support the team with managing their capacity vs business needs
Flags delivery and timeline risks
Provides constructive feedback with actionable recommendations.
Assists the PM with stakeholder management when needed
Provides coaching and technical training support for direct reports.
Engages in strategic discussions with the PM on roadmap planning
Optimises and improves onboarding processes to maximise timely delivery of new hires
Displays solid leadership to positively shape the pod(s) and Peach.
Is a force multiplier
Able to articulate quarterly impact delivered by the pod(s)
Enables and supports cross-pod collaboration or alignment when necessary
Competencies: What You Bring
Competent in agile methodologies (SCRUM beneficial): Use sprint metrics to drive efficiency and continuous improvement in delivery.
Strong experience designing efficient processes: Sprint ceremonies, on call rotations, incidence response and postmortems.
Strong people management experience: Timely candidate evaluations, run interview processes leading to positive candidate experience; participate in calibration, career conversations, performance review and salary adjustments.
Strong payments domain knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of the steps of a transaction, knowledge of the technologies involved, the regulatory landscape, and the business drivers behind it all (customers, merchants, acquiring banks, etc..)
Technical expertise: You have an engineering background with experience in some of the above listed tech stack items, can participate in high level code reviews, can articulate the implications of tech debt items and advocate for their prioritisation.
Reasonable understanding of DORA metrics and how they can improve engineering performance.
