Electro Mechanical Technician

Job Description

We are looking for two skilled and reliable Electro-Mechanical Technicians to join our technical team. The ideal candidates will be responsible for the assembly, installation, maintenance, and repair of power generators. This role supports both production/assembly and aftersales service, ensuring that all equipment is built to specification and that clients receive exceptional technical support post-delivery. Key Responsibilities 1. Generator Assembly Assemble diesel and alternative power generators according to engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications. Install electrical components, control panels, alternators, engines, and wiring harnesses. Conduct mechanical fitting, mounting, and alignment of parts and sub-assemblies. Ensure all assembled units meet quality and safety standards before testing and dispatch. 2. Testing & Quality Control Perform functional testing of completed generator units, including load testing, voltage checks, insulation testing, and operational verification. Identify, troubleshoot, and rectify electrical or mechanical faults during testing stages. Complete inspection reports and maintain accurate documentation for each unit. 3. Aftersales Support & Field Service Provide on-site installation support for customers, including commissioning and handover. Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical issues on client sites. Conduct scheduled maintenance, servicing, and performance inspections of generators. Provide technical advice and support to customers to ensure optimal operation and longevity of equipment. 4. Workshop & Administrative Duties Maintain tools, equipment, and workshop areas in good working condition. Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations. Keep detailed service logs, job cards, and maintenance records. Assist with inventory checks and ordering of spare parts when required.
Key Requirements Qualifications Matric (Grade 12) required. N3N6 in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electro-Mechanical fields. Trade Test (Electrician, Millwright, Diesel Mechanic, or related) is highly advantageous. Experience Minimum 24 years of experience in generator assembly, electrical installation, or electro-mechanical repair. Hands-on experience working with diesel engines, alternators, control panels, and electrical systems. Experience in fault-finding, diagnostics, and field service is strongly beneficial. Skills & Competencies Strong understanding of electrical circuits, mechanical systems, and generator controls. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring schematics, and manuals. Proficient in using hand tools, power tools, measurement instruments, and testing equipment. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently. Good communication and customer service orientation. Personal Attributes Detail-oriented with a high commitment to quality workmanship. Reliable, safety-conscious, and professional. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Willingness to travel to customer sites and work overtime when required.
