The E & I Specialist will be responsible for installing, maintaining, repairing, configuring and calibrating instrumentation equipment and control systems to ensure optimal operational performance. The instrumentation technician will support manufacturing, process control, and automation activities by ensuring instrumentation systems operate accurately and reliably.
Key Performance Areas:
Ensure all instrumentation equipment is installed, calibrated, and maintained to meet safety and operational standards.
Conduct routine inspections and troubleshooting to prevent system failures.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance, calibration, and repairs.
Support process improvements through technical advice and proactive maintenance strategies.
Comply with safety, quality, and environmental regulations at all times.

Perform corrective, preventative and predictive maintenance
Ensure proper and safe operation of all instrumentation equipment
Maintain equipment in good operating condition to optimize equipment availability, reliability and production output
Implement and review preventative maintenance plans, inspection schedules & works orders
Perform instrumentation duties during job changes
Diagnose and interpret problems (fault finding)
Repair breakdowns, ensuring that all required information is recorded in the system, along with duration of breakdowns and delays in resolution
Monitor spares consumption and provide feedback as necessary to ensure ongoing spare part availability
Use assets and resources optimally to eliminate or minimize waste as necessary
Comply with approved engineering standards and routines (5S, problem solving, ATO, EWO, etc.)
Identify broken and defective tools, parts and components for reporting to management
Isolate defective tools, parts and components, and report to management
Implement Short Interval Controls (SIC) and visual management
Adhere with the company's escalation procedure
Partake in standby duties and respond to callouts as and when required
Utilise Computerised Monitoring Maintenance System (CMMS)
Monitor contractor work to ensure quality in line with quality requirements
Conduct periodic stock count of spares parts for all machines, and complete required documentation for tracking purposes
Comply with modification control procedures and management of change processes (MOC)
Give input to identified projects as necessary
Implement departmental projects
Put in permanent countermeasures to prevent repeat breakdowns
Perform section checks and identify possible risks
Comply with food safety standards
Ensure that equipment is properly isolated when work has to be performed to ensure safety to all employees
Ensure that work orders are created for all tasks
Ensure that defects identified during scheduled maintenance are reported to management
Key Competencies
Computer literacy
Instrumentation hardware knowledge of flow, level, temperature, load cell and pressure experience
Strong leadership, self-management, analytical, strategic thinking and problem-solving skills essential
Understand how to read Instrumentation and Electrical Drawings
PLC and SCADA systems experience and working knowledge
Excellent communication and interpersonal
Ability to successfully influence and motivate teams, peers and management
Strong plant preventative maintenance and troubleshooting experience
Attention to detail and precision in calibration and maintenance activities.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
Qualification & Experience Required
Relevant technical diploma in Instrumentation with trade test
4 years+ working with industrial instrumentation and control systems.
Knowledge of calibration procedures, troubleshooting, and maintenance of sensors, transducers, valves, and controllers.
Familiarity with Siemens and ABB DCS and SCADA systems is desirable.
