7. Scope of Work:
A Design Lead - Civil/Water Engineer leads the design process for civil and water engineering projects, ensuring projects adhere to standards and regulations while also managing project timelines, budgets, and quality. They are responsible for overseeing the technical aspects of designs, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and communicating with clients and stakeholders.
8. Key Responsibilities:
Civil Engineer Design Lead, particularly within a pipeline context, would be responsible for leading the design and engineering efforts for pipeline projects, managing design teams, ensuring compliance with regulations and standards, and overseeing the project's timely and cost-effective completion.
Design Leadership: Lead the development of detailed designs, plans, and specifications for pipeline projects.
Team Management: Supervise and mentor junior engineers and designers, ensuring they have the necessary resources and support.
Project Management: Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively, ensuring the project is delivered on time and within budget.
Technical Expertise: Apply knowledge of civil engineering principles, pipeline design standards, and relevant regulations.
Quality Assurance: Implement and maintain quality control procedures to ensure the design meets required standards and specifications.
Client Communication: Communicate with clients and stakeholders to keep them informed of project progress and address any concerns.
Problem Solving: Identify and resolve design challenges, ensuring the project can be completed successfully.
Risk Management: Identify and assess potential risks and implement mitigation strategies.
Compliance: Ensure all design work complies with relevant regulations, codes, and standards.
9. Qualifications and Experience:
BSc/Beng or BTech
Minimum of 10 years' experience water engineering, particular big diameter pipelines
Extensive experience with FIDIC contracts and knowledge of COTO specifications.
Familiarity with Construction Procurement Guidelines (CPG).
Proven track record in managing cost control, claims, and contractual obligations.
Strong knowledge of road construction, Stormwater systems, pipelines, and drainage structures.
Excellent negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in cost estimation software and MS Office Suite.
Proficiency in CCS software, BuildSmart software, and Model Maker software is a must.
Professional - Pr. Engineer or Pr. Tech.
10. Reporting Line:
The Design Lead will report to the Head office Contracts Manager.
11. Performance Indicators:
On-time Project Delivery: Percentage of projects completed within the planned timeframe. Budget Management: Project completion within budget, avoiding cost overruns.
Design Quality: Measure of the number of design flaws or errors identified during the design process or construction.
Safety Performance: Monitoring safety incidents or accidents during the project, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
Innovation and Problem-Solving: Tracking the implementation of innovative design solutions and successful resolution of design challenges.
Client Satisfaction: Measuring client satisfaction with the design and overall project delivery.
Team Performance: Evaluating the productivity and efficiency of the design team.
Defect Resolution Time: Tracking the time taken to resolve design defects or issues.
Adherence to Standards: Percentage of designs that comply with all relevant regulations and standards.
12. Health, Safety, and Compliance:
Ensure procurement practices align with HSE regulations and sustainability principles.
Maintain ethical procurement practices and prevent conflicts of interest.
