Mary Help of Christians is an Independent Catholic Primary School (Grades R-7) serving approximately 650 children. The school has a proud legacy of providing quality, values-based education over many decades.

The Board of Governors seeks to appoint a suitably qualified

candidate

as

Deputy Principal

with effect from

1 January 2026

. The successful candidate will share responsibility for

curriculum management in the Intersen Phase

and contribute to the overall leadership of the school.

The successful candidate is expected to assume duty on 1 January 2026, with flexibility to accommodate notice periods where required

Key Responsibilities -

Curriculum and leadership responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Assessing, monitoring, and discussing curriculum standards. Developing and maintaining curriculum materials, including lesson plans and assessment tools. Reviewing and recommending textbooks and other educational resources. Observing classroom practice and conducting teacher evaluations. Providing professional support and guidance to staff regarding effective teaching and learning. Mentoring and coaching staff to support skill development. Analysing student performance data and implementing intervention strategies. Coordinating assessment, moderation, target-setting, and remediation. Researching and implementing current trends in instructional methods and educational technology. Planning, organising, and conducting training sessions, workshops, and professional development. Coordinating academic and timetabling programmes. Supporting effective communication with parents, including interviews and progress discussions. Implementing and maintaining the School's Code of Conduct and managing student discipline. Assisting with student leadership development and pastoral care initiatives. Coordinating outreach, fundraising, and community engagement projects. Supporting school marketing, public relations, and events. Driving innovation through research, development, and implementation of new initiatives. Providing strategic and operational leadership aligned with the school's mission and vision.

Minimum Requirements



A recognised Primary School teaching qualification. Registration with SACE and a valid SAPS clearance certificate. Relevant teaching experience, preferably with leadership or departmental head responsibilities. CAPS training and strong knowledge of curriculum management (lesson planning, assessment, moderation, data analysis, intervention, and remediation). Proficiency in integrating e-learning and digital tools into the curriculum. Ability to teach and communicate effectively in English (the medium of instruction). Conversational Afrikaans and/or isiXhosa will be an advantage. Strong administrative, organisational, and classroom management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal and intrapersonal competencies.

Actively support and promote the Catholic ethos of the school. Contribute to the extra-curricular life of the school. Offer remedial and academic support to learners where required. Serve on various portfolio committees. Assist with fundraising, outreach, and pastoral projects. Participate in shared responsibilities such as playground duty, first aid, and after-school supervision. Commit to ongoing professional development and formation.
