Job Description


Main purpose of the job:

  • To manage all data requirements for research and audit purposes
  • Data management includes the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of research databases, managing data collection and data quality, and working within a team and with researchers
Location:
  • Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre xe2x80x93 Parktown, Johannesburg
Key performance areas
  • Expertise with REDCap is essential, as most databases are established using REDCap
  • Database planning, advising on the data collection instruments to be used, setting up, implementing, and maintaining databases
  • Manage data collection processes and data quality control measures
  • Facilitate the data management process, including the collection, organizing, protection, and storing of data
  • Prepare reports for submission to the PI and other external sources
  • Provide timely and accurate responses to data queries
  • Provide study datasets for specific projects with necessary permissions in place (i.e. Confidentiality and POPIA Agreements as well as the Data access permissions)
  • Attend to and resolve study-related data management queries
  • Train, supervise, and provide data management technical assistance to project staff and researchers as needed
  • Review and edit data to ensure completeness and accuracy of information
  • Follow up with medical staff and/or allied medical staff or participants to resolve data-related queries
  • Construct calculations, add data quality rules, administer data quality processes within REDCap databases
  • Transcribe and code information prior to uploading into REDCap, be competent with data import/export with REDCap
  • Develop and maintain relationships with collaborators and researchers, staff, and research
  • participants, work as a team
  • Conduct general research Office administration, and be willing to do additional work relating to research activities
  • Provide staff support and guidance to ensure they carry out their roles efficiently and effectively
Required minimum education and training:
  • Degree in Health Sciences
  • Postgraduate training in Data management and Managerial skills preferable
  • Updated GCP Certificate
  • Evidence of REDCap Training or proficiency
  • Data Management xe2x80x93 expertise in REDCap is essential; Study set-up, design, database integrity, data storage, and sharing; analytic skills preferable (STATA, SAS, Python, R, or equivalent)
Required minimum work experience:
  • Minimum 2 yearsxe2x80x99 Database Management experience in Medical/Health Sciences
Professional body registration:
  • Relevant professional body registration

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving
  • Ability to work under pressure and capable of effective time management
  • Excellent communication ability both verbal and written
  • Desire to perform accurate and ethical research

  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate on a professional level with all levels of staff
  • Be able to use advanced features of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint xe2x80x93 as a minimum
