The Data and Analytics Lead is a pivotal leadership role within Omnia's Data and Analytics team, responsible for guiding the transition to a modern, scalable data environment. This role leads a team of full stack BI developers--spanning both data engineering and reporting--and is accountable for the successful delivery of governed data products and analytical solutions that support strategic decision-making across the Group. The role plays a key part in driving the execution of the Omnia Data Hub, consolidating fragmented reporting environments, and enabling a culture of self-service analytics and data product thinking across business units. This position reports to the Head of Data and Analytics and is instrumental in shaping the next generation of data capabilities at Omnia.
Qualifications
Matric or NQF level 5
BSc/BA in Computer Science, Engineering or Statistics, master's in informatics is advantageous.
Certifications:
BI technologies (e.g., Microsoft Power BI, Oracle Business Intelligence, T-SQL)
Experience
8-10 years of progressive experience in Business Intelligence, Data Engineering, or Analytics roles
Proven experience in leading or mentoring BI developers across both data engineering and reporting functions
Strong track record of delivering end-to-end data solutions using modern data platforms (e.g., Databricks, Azure Data Services, Power BI)
Extensive experience in designing and implementing dimensional data models (Kimball), ETL/ELT pipelines, and dashboard/report development
Hands-on experience in managing and reconciling complex datasets to ensure data integrity and auditability
Experience working within agile delivery environments, managing priorities across both strategic and operational workloads
Exposure to enterprise data governance and working with sensitive or financial data sets (advantageous)
Duties
1. Team Leadership and Capability Development
Lead, mentor, and coach a team of full stack BI developers (front-end and back-end) to deliver high-quality, governed data products
Build a team culture focused on continuous learning, collaboration, ownership, and quality
Identify skills gaps and lead training, onboarding, and development planning for BI team members
2. Technical Oversight and Solution Architecture
Oversee the technical implementation of ingestion pipelines, data transformations, modeling, and reporting
Review and approve architectural design, data models (dimensional/star schema), and Power BI semantic layer implementations
Ensure appropriate data reconciliation, performance tuning, and production hardening of all BI solutions
Drive alignment with modern data architecture patterns including medallion architecture, domain-driven design, and modularity
3. Strategic Execution and Data Hub Enablement
Translate business strategy and analytical needs into executable delivery plans aligned to the Data Hub roadmap
Drive the consolidation of siloed reporting assets into centralized, reusable, governed data products
Own the prioritization and delivery of strategic BI initiatives across multiple business domains (finance, sales, supply chain, etc.)
Serve as the tactical executor for the Head of Data and Analytics to operationalize the vision of a modern, scalable BI capability
4. Delivery Management and Agile Execution
Manage agile delivery processes including sprint planning, backlog grooming, and cross-team coordination
Ensure effective workload balance across team members and alignment of daily activities with quarterly priorities
Track delivery progress, remove blockers, and ensure sprint outcomes are aligned to KPIs
5. Governance, Standards, and Quality Assurance
Define and enforce best practices in development: naming conventions, documentation, testing, version control
Ensure all data products are auditable, accurate, secure, and aligned with enterprise data governance standards
Collaborate with Data Governance, Platform, and Master Data teams to embed policies into delivery practices
6. Stakeholder Engagement and Adoption Enablement
Engage business users, analysts, and leadership to ensure analytics solutions address real business questions
Drive user adoption of Power BI reports, dashboards, and self-service datasets via enablement, training, and usage monitoring
Promote awareness of the Data Hub and its value proposition across divisions

Must have experience working in or transitioning to a modern data stack (Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Lake, Power BI)
Expected to lead and participate in architectural and governance forums to help shape the future of data at Omnia
Ability to work across diverse ERP systems and business units, translating fragmented datasets into unified, governed data products
Occasional after-hours or weekend availability may be required during major deployments, migrations, or production support escalations
Must demonstrate strong initiative, ownership, and a delivery mindset in a fast-paced, evolving environment
Comfortable engaging both technical team members and business executives, translating needs into technical roadmaps
