Role Purpose
To define and embed the Group's data management strategy and orchestrate the execution of data science solutions across the Group which will enable the overall enhancement of data availability and usability, and the effective monetization of both internal and external data in order to be a key strategic lever for the success and growth of our various business units and the Group as a whole.
Requirements

  • Honour's degree in Data Science, Actuarial Science, Computer Science, Statistics or relative equivalent qualification (essential)
  • Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics or relative equivalent qualification (advantageous)
  • Certifications in Data Science, Statistics, Analytics or similar (advantageous)
  • Experience in working within regulated financial services required, with insurance experience (advantageous)
  • 10 years+ experience in Quantitative roles, including Professional Services and Management Consulting (essential)
  • 5 years+ leading teams, particularly in delivering data science and analytics, AI and Intelligent Automation solutions (advantageous)
  • Extensive experience with at least one programming language (e.g. Python), business analytics software (e.g. SAS) statistical package (e.g. R)
  • Experience in Big Data, Data Strategy or Analytics
  • Experience in Data Management practices (i.e.,governance, strategy, architecture, quality, operations, Business Intelligence, risk management, etc.)
  • Experience developing and managing business cases, programme implementation and change initiatives
  • Hands-on experience developing and maintaining key partnership with internal and external stakeholders at a senior level
Knowledge
  • Deep theoretical understanding of statistical methods and machine learning techniques
  • Understanding of Artificial Intelligence solutions and techniques
  • Ability to apply statistical methods and machine learning techniques to solve business problems
  • Formulating business problems to enable statistical modelling
  • Selecting the right statistical tools and techniques for the job
  • Experience translating statistical findings into business recommendations
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Oversee the Group data strategy, execution and governance approach, including the data architectural functions and the establishment of a control framework over the design and security decisions that govern the implementation of the data environment and how this applies to the specific needs of business units.
  • Partner with cross functional data analytics teams across the business to encourage exchange of information, learnings, and set a clear way of data analytics and operations.
  • Drive the development of business intelligence solutions, based on overall Group strategic ambitions, which provide actionable insights to various business units, enabling informed decision-making.
  • Ensure delivery aligned to data-related risks and compliance with relevant regulations, ensuring data privacy and security.
  • Collaborate with business leaders, technology teams, and external partners to identify opportunities for data-driven innovation and support cross-functional initiatives.
  • Defining Group Standards around Data Products and orchestrating the development of these appropriately across the Group centre and business units to ensure data has the quality, integrity and usability needed by users.
  • Partner with other Data Science & Analytics leaders across the group to ensure the most competitive talent proposition, providing opportunities for high performers to gain experience working in different business units.
  • Lead the development and deployment of advanced analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence solutions to extract valuable insights, improve risk management, and enhance customer engagement.
  • Evaluate the return on investment of data management solutions and drive the enhancement of data management & analytical solutions to maximise operational business processes.
  • Create a data management system which will facilitate the secure collection and processing of data across the Group.
  • Oversee the data sourcing, management, governance, models and mining activities to support descriptive and trend analysis
  • Drive the improvement and quality of data management systems by implementing initiatives that optimise performance, staff productivity and service delivery.
  • Establish and drive standards and procedures for solutions definition, development, testing, change management and operational controls.
  • Keep up to breast with data and analytical best practice and trends emerging in the market and determine solutions which will enable the business to evolve to the changes in the market.
  • Engage with key internal and external stakeholders to identify changing client needs and make recommendations to align service offering with client needs.
  • Provide actionable customer insights to enhance marketing strategies, customer acquisition and retention efforts.
