Join a Fast-Moving Project Environment as a Costing Engineer - Drive Value on High-Impact Projects
Are you a detail-driven Engineer with a knack for numbers and a passion for complex projects? We're hiring a Costing Engineer to support high-value, multi-disciplinary engineering projects in South Africa and abroad. This role offers hands-on exposure to fabrication, costing models, and end-to-end project estimation within a highly dynamic, high-pressure environment.
Key Responsibilities
Develop detailed and accurate cost estimates using in-house models, tools, and software.
Maintain and enhance the costing database; implement automated costing models and analytics tools.
Analyse fabrication and technical drawings to prepare estimates for steelwork, plate work, pipework, and mechanical components.
Prepare RFQs for subcontractors and suppliers, including scope of work and relevant technical documentation.
Collaborate with Engineering, Technical, and Contracts teams to align costs with project design, BOQs, and schedules.
Evaluate and track supplier pricing and performance; expedite quotations and maintain supplier relationships.
Analyse deviations between actual and estimated costs, recommending updates to costing methods.
Assist with tender planning, returnable schedules, and site inspections as needed.
Report on cost trends and insights to improve proposal competitiveness and overall project delivery.
Requirements
Candidate Requirements
Technical Qualification in Mechanical / Industrial Engineering.
2-5 years' experience in cost estimation or project costing, ideally on fabrication-intensive projects.
Strong proficiency in Excel (SharePoint training provided).
Ability to interpret technical and fabrication drawings.
Analytical thinker with excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and resilience under pressure.
A proactive, high-energy approach with the drive to learn and grow quickly in a fast-paced environment.
