Applications for the post of Coordinator: Community Engagement, in the Residential Services department, are invited from dynamic and vibrant individuals with demonstrated student housing experience within a tertiary institution, who have a quest for constant self-improvement and development and the growth, development and support of others. The core stakeholder in this position are students who live in the residences. Applicants must be client-service orientated and passionate about supporting the organizationxe2x80x99s strategic deliverables with regards to their students and studentsxe2x80x99 co-curricular development and well-being. Purpose of the Job Establishing a vibrant, co-curricular life in the university residences with an established form of positive recreation, in the evenings, over weekends, that celebrates talents and diversity in the community. The CE office furthermore supports all RS events and programming in the provision of Arts and Culture activities where required. The Office also structures and implements engagement activities with a view to the bolstering relationships between the department and its student body and with the intent of incorporating student voices to inform the strategic ends of the department. The office is aligned with institutional strategy and the emphasis on the co-curricular experience of students. The Successful Candidate Will Work Directly with Students and Colleagues and be Responsible for:

  • Establishing and maintaining a vibrant cultural life at UWC residences
  • Recruitment, induction and training of Community Engagement peer facilitators to drive initiatives under the mentorship and training of the coordinator (Includes monitoring of academics and referral to Academic Support for CE student structures)
  • Provision of developmental activities and programming for interested culturally oriented student structures, the UWC CAC Choir, and/or clubs (Includes monitoring of academics and referral to Academic Support for CE student structures)
  • Provision of alternate forms of recreation on campus, in the evenings, over weekends that expose students to positive recreation
  • Monitoring and Evaluation and Reporting

Minimum Requirements

  • A relevant three year degree at NQF 7
  • Honours degree (NQF 8) in the field of Arts or Humanities would be preferred
  • Three to five years demonstrated experience in arts and cultural activity planning/programming
  • Have demonstrated interest and excellent knowledge of the arts, community engagement activities and in working projects with students or similar aged participants
