Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Consulting Electrical Engineer who will be focusing on the design, coordination, and delivery of electrical services for commercial building projects. This office-based role involves working closely with architects, other engineering disciplines, contractors, and clients to ensure electrical systems are safe, efficient, compliant, and aligned with project objectives.
Key Responsibilities

• Design & Documentation
• Prepare electrical design layouts, schematics, and specifications for commercial projects (e.g., office buildings, retail, mixed-use developments).
• Produce technical documentation for tender and construction stages.
• Project Coordination
• Liaise with clients, architects, mechanical engineers, contractors, and suppliers.
• Participate in design meetings and provide technical input throughout the project lifecycle.
• Compliance & Standards
• Ensure all designs meet SANS, OHS Act, and other relevant South African electrical regulations.
• Integrate sustainable and energy-efficient solutions where applicable.
• Technical Review
• Review shop drawings, material submissions, and contractor proposals for compliance with design intent.
• Provide technical support during installation and commissioning phases.
• Cost & Quality Control
• Assist with electrical services cost estimation and value engineering.
• Monitor design quality and ensure project deliverables are met on schedule.

Qualifications & Experience

• BEng / BSc / BTech in Electrical Engineering (ECSA registration or eligibility preferred).
• Minimum 3-5 years consulting engineering experience in commercial building projects.
• Strong understanding of electrical systems, including lighting, power distribution, backup power, fire detection, data, and security systems.
• Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit (advantageous), and MS Office Suite.
• Knowledge of SANS standards, OHS regulations, and municipal submission processes.
