COMMUNITY LIAISON OFFICER

Main purpose is to design, implement and manage recruitment and retention in relation to research protocols as well as facilitate the relationship between the community and the research site.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 Certificate with a bachelors degree in health sciences, social sciences, or community development qualification
  • Experience recruiting and retaining trial participants
  • Minimum 2 years of staff management experience
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in a clinical environment
  • Demonstrable experience in developing strategic plans to engage communities based on study protocols
  • Progressive, demonstrable experience implementing, engaging and facilitating Community Advisory Boards (CAB)
  • Valid Drivers License and own transport
  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure with minimal supervision

Advantageous:
  • Xhosa speaking
  • Experience working in a clinical trial environment
  • Valid Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Certificate
  • Project management experience
  • PDP (Professional Driving permit)
Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and evaluate recruitment, retention and education of research participants across all studies
  • Line Manage fieldworkers to ensure optimal outputs as per study requirements, across all trials
  • Train staff in relation to study specific community engagement activities
  • Develop, maintain, and monitor recruitment and retention plans
  • Evaluate current strategies and implement new strategies
  • Evaluate content of study specific discussion groups and introduce new information into recruitment and retention plans
  • Network with stakeholders to increase organization presence and awareness in the community
  • Facilitate and support the creation and maintenance of the Community Advisory Boards (CAB) constitutional processes
  • Facilitate and support CAB meetings
  • Identify CAB needs to ensure optimal CAB functioning. Provide ongoing trainings
  • Maintain accurate records of Community and other NGOs and resources
  • Outreach Plan and activities
  • Submit budgets for events for approval from Project Leader
  • Responsible for adherence to community budget
  • Submit report of activities bimonthly to Project Leader
  • Participate in sponsor and site meetings and calls
