Job Description


Our client in the Mining and Engineering industry is currently looking for a Community Liaison Officer in Burgersfort, Limpopo.

Responsibilities:

  • To form partnerships with communities around the mine and managers by providing all community processes to the business cycle, in line with policy and legislation in South Africa.
  • To provide an advisory service to the community, management and employees of the company in order to ensure stability and sustainability in the organization.
  • Reporting to the HUB Director.
  • Effectively manage the business and social risks associated within the mining and production activities.
  • Form strategic partnerships with the multi-stakeholder forum and ensure accurate reporting of data.
  • Ensure the company is compliant with DMR, HR statutory and legal requirements.
  • Analyse the community risk and ensure minimal disruption to the mine.
  • Strong support to Head office managers regarding community and HR issues.
  • Offer an advisory role to Mine Manager and act as their eyes and ears on the ground.
  • Create and implement mine relation programmes.
  • Build and create value for the communities in which the mine operates in.
  • Engage relevant stakeholders in order to achieve accepted outcomes.
  • Contribute to local socio-economic development activities in the areas.
  • Increase positive outcomes of Mine activities whilst reducing the negative aspects on the operations and the community.
  • Outline how communities around the mining areas are to benefit from mining activities around the mines, such benefits to include community trusts, Preferential Procurement, and Local Economic Development projects.
  • Ensure Proactive engagement of stakeholders, and ensure an appropriate response is provided to all plausible stakeholder complaints.
  • Develop a newsletter that will be issued quarterly within the affected communities and stakeholders.
  • Ensure that there is a 15-minute time slot for the organisation on the local community radio station to communicate, inform and engage communities on major developments affecting the local communities around the mine.
  • Engage local communities who walk into the mine offices to inquire about any issues relating to recruitment, procurement, LED projects, training and bursaries, and create a system to log all their enquiries.
  • Create a budget for Corporate Social Investment needs together with the LED department.
  • Conduct an annual perception survey to be conducted to assess the impact of stakeholder engagement initiatives in terms of addressing the material needs and aspiration of all the local stakeholders.
  • Produce monthly community stakeholder reports for management to make accurate business decisions.

  • Understanding of conditions community dynamics.
Requirements:
  • Degree in Human Behaviour, Sociology, Social work, Industrial Psychology or similar.
  • 10 yearsxe2x80x99 experience in community liaison and stakeholder management.
  • Experience must include exposure to community and industrial relations.
  • Preferably in a Mining or Production environment.
  • Valid unendorsed code B driverxe2x80x99s Licence.
  • Persistence in the face of adversity.
  • Tough negotiator.
  • Community savvy and be able to converse in local African languages.
  • Be assertive, yet compassionate and willing to listen and respond to community and employee needs.
  • Mature and able to multitask while managing priorities.
  • Creative thinker and manage to flush out negativity.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel to remote places.
  • Social intelligence.
  • Strong knowledge of Mining legislations and history.
  • Ability to influence all stakeholders.
  • Be able to communicate across the board and all levels of South African Society.
  • Understanding of related legal regulations and legislation related to area of work.
Remuneration:
  • R1 mil xe2x80x93 R1.2 mil per annum.
