Job Summary:
The Commercial Underwriter is responsible for evaluating and assessing risks associated with commercial loans and determining the creditworthiness of businesses applying for loans. This role requires a deep understanding of financial analysis, risk assessment, and underwriting principles in order to make informed decisions on loan approvals. The Commercial Underwriter must have excellent attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and analyze financial statements, credit reports, and other relevant documentation to assess creditworthiness of commercial loan applicants
- Evaluate borrower's credit history, financial stability, and repayment capability to determine risk levels
- Identify and highlight potential risk factors that may impact loan approval decisions
- Collaborate with loan officers and other team members to ensure accurate and timely underwriting processes
- Communicate underwriting decisions to stakeholders and provide recommendations for loan approvals or denials
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory requirements, and best practices in commercial lending
Qualifications:
- RE1/5
- Short Term Insurance Certificate
- 3+ years of experience in commercial underwriting or related role
- Strong understanding of financial analysis, risk assessment, and underwriting principles
- Proficient in using underwriting software and financial modeling tools
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills
