Hire Resolve's client, a reputable financial services company, is seeking a skilled and experienced Commercial Underwriter to join their team. This role involves underwriting a range of commercial business functions, including new policies, renewals, endorsements, quotations, and related underwriting activities. The ideal candidate will have a solid track record at an insurer or broker with binding authority, demonstrating confidence in making underwriting decisions on rates and risk types. They must also be adept at arranging surveys when necessary and ensuring full compliance with established underwriting guidelines and standards.ResponsiibiltiesUnderwriting and Policy Management:Issue new policies, renewals, and endorsements using the C360 System.Prepare new business quotations.Underwrite according to established standards, policies, and procedures.Negotiate renewal terms and prepare renewal documentation.Review and calculate policy retentions.Monitor and request surveys, implementing requirements per procedures.Correct unprofitable policies and manage exposure levels.Review and authorise documentation before dispatch.Save all documentation electronically.Handle queries and amendments promptly and professionally.Ensure documentation accuracy and resolution of customer issues.Client Service and Delivery:Maintain high standards of service delivery, quality, and compliance.Resolve escalated customer queries and complaints.Provide feedback and updates to clients.Support the sales team in acquiring and retaining profitable business.Develop and follow operational plans and schedules.Share knowledge and contribute to new process development.Teamwork and Knowledge Sharing:Exhibit behaviours aligned with the companys culture and values.Collaborate with team members to meet service expectations.Share product, process, and systems knowledge with peers.Continuous Improvement:Adhere to all internal policies and procedures.Proactively identify opportunities for process improvement.
RequirementsMatric (Grade 12)NQF Level 5 in Short-Term InsuranceRegulatory Exam Level 1Minimum of 5 years' experience in commercial underwritingCommercial Lines Class of Business accreditationDOFA confirmation from the Financial Services Board (FSB) * Experience with the Cardinal 360 system (advantageous)Knowledge:Proficiency in Microsoft OfficeIn-depth understanding of Commercial Insurance products and the financial services industrySkills and Attributes:Analytical and detail-orientedStrong written and verbal communication skillsCapable of working independently and collaborativelyProfessional, proactive, and diplomaticAbility to manage multiple prioritiesLogical thinking with a strong work ethicResilient under pressure in a fast-paced environmentDemonstrates strong ethics and reliability
