Qualifications/Experience

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
• Minimum 8 years experience in database administration and consulting
• Deep expertise in at least two: PostgreSQL, Oracle, MS SQL Server

Essential Skills Requirements

• In-depth knowledge of AWS and Azure database services (RDS, Aurora, Cosmos DB, Azure SQL Database)
• Experience with database performance tuning, security hardening, and cost optimization in cloud environments
• Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Bash, PowerShell) for automation and management tasks
• Solid understanding of database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies in cloud contexts
• Experience with database high availability and replication technologies
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure

Advantageous Skills Requirements

• Relevant cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Database Specialty, Azure Database Administrator Associate).
• Experience with NoSQL databases and cloud-based NoSQL solutions.
• Knowledge of containerized database deployments and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Understanding of data governance and compliance requirements in the automotive industry and South African context.
• Experience with database monitoring and observability tools in cloud environments.
• Experience with Prometheus and Grafana for monitoring
• Familiarity with agile methodologies and DevOps practices.
• Familiarity with tools like Confluence and Jira
• Experience working in a global, multi-cultural team environment

Role Requirements

• Design, implement, and manage cloud-based database solutions on AWS and Microsoft Azure platforms, ensuring high availability, scalability, and performance.
• Develop and implement strategies for migrating on-premises databases to cloud environments, working closely with the global migration team.
• Optimize database performance, security, and cost-efficiency in cloud environments.
• Implement and manage database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions in the cloud.
• Collaborate with the automation team to develop scripts and tools for database management, monitoring, and maintenance in cloud environments.
• Work with the security team to implement and maintain database security measures, ensuring compliance with Group standards and South African data protection regulations.
• Provide expert technical support for cloud database issues, performing root cause analysis and implementing long-term solutions.
• Stay updated on the latest cloud database technologies and services, evaluating their potential application within Group.
• Participate in capacity planning and resource optimization for cloud database infrastructure.
• Collaborate with application teams to ensure optimal database design and query performance in cloud environments.
• Contribute to the development of best practices, standards, and documentation for cloud database management.
• Mentor junior team members and share knowledge on cloud database technologies and best practices.
• Act as a liaison between the South African hub and global cloud database teams, ensuring knowledge transfer and consistent practices across regions.
