Performs IT functions such as design, analysis, evaluation, testing, debugging, and implementation of applications programs supporting the company infrastructure business processes and operations and/or network-based (cloud) product systems.

Analyzes, installs, acquires, modifies, and supports operating systems, database, or utilities software. Plans, conducts, and directs the analysis of business problems with automated systems solutions. Analyzes, designs, acquires, and implements projects for LAN and/or WAN systems.

Plans, designs, acquires, and implements telecommunications voice/wire systems.

At higher job levels, may contribute to the development, testing, evaluation, or design of system or infrastructure architecture used throughout the IT solution set.

Working at NTT

Cloud Data Centre Engineer is responsible for providing a managed service to clients to ensure that their IT infrastructure and systems remain operational. Through the proactive monitoring, identifying, investigating, and resolving of technical incidents and problems, the Cloud Data Centre Engineer is able to restore service to clients. Their primary objective is to proactively review client requests or tickets and apply technical/process knowledge to resolve them without breaching service level agreement (SLA). The Cloud Data Centre Engineer focuses on second-line support for incidents and requests with a medium level of complexity.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Monitoring and maintenance of all Data Centre critical infrastructure

Performing planned / preventative / predictive maintenance of all infrastructure

Fault detection of critical infrastructure

Switching and isolation of MV and LV equipment

Daily walk arounds and inspections of electrical and mechanical systems and equipment

Offering technical support at Data Centre by performing system/network installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of Cisco Access layer switches to ensure optimum operations.

Carrying out preventative maintenance of data center equipment and devices.

Monitoring system processes to ensure smooth operations.

Comply to working methods ensuring that all client SLA and MSA's are achieved.

Monitor customer network servers and storage systems to ensure uptime and efficient resolution of issues.

Configuring Cisco Access Layer switches for clients and making sure there is Layer 2 connectivity to the Core switches.
Installing and configuring Windows Server / Linux on physical servers as well as installing any software as per clients request.
Troubleshooting connectivity issues in the Hosting environment.
Troubleshooting connectivity issues to and from firewalls on the Nexus 5k switches

Role also includes some technical documentation writing including Client liaison, both verbally, electronically and face-to-face with both technical and non-technical audiences

Compliance

Maintain compliance in accordance with all relative policies and procedures.

Meet agreed interdepartmental OLA (Operational Level Agreement)

Skill Requirements

Good technical abilities

Effective communication skills, active listener, ability to understand requirements and be able to explain complicated technical process in a simple to way to nontechnical staff is a requirement for successful data technicians.

Proactive problem solver, perform rapid and accurate assessments.

Ability to work independently, as well as being a positive team player.

Self-motivated

Conducts self professionally, exhibits elevated levels of tolerance and patience.

Responsible for continued learning and self-development

Quick response to potentially critical situations

Trouble shoot systems and components to identify root causes of failures.

Implement corrective actions promptly to mitigate the negative effects of system changes.

Good Microsoft Office skills

Qualifications and Experience

A minimum of 5-7 years post qualification experience

Relevant data centre experience preferable

Good knowledge on Data Centre environments and critical infrastructure systems preferable

Certifications

CCNA/CCNP

Cloud Virtualization

ITIL v4

Advantageous

Linux capabilities

MPLS

Cisco Nexus 2K FEX's (Fabric Extenders) and Nexus 5K switches
