1. Mandatory Requirements

Certification & Legal Compliance

PSIRA

Grade A

(active and in good standing) No criminal history Valid South African

Driver's License

SASSETA Accredited Close Protection

Firearm Competencies - Business Purposes (SAPS)

Handle & Use a

Handgun

for Business Purposes Handle & Use a

Shotgun

for Business Purposes Handle & Use a

Self-Loading Rifle (SLR)

for Business Purposes

Driving & Medical

Accredited

Advanced Driving Certificate

First Aid Level 3

(minimum)

2. Surveillance, Counter-Surveillance & Operational Skills

Surveillance & Counter-Surveillance

Proven experience in surveillance detection and counter-surveillance Experience in protective advance work and route planning

Risk Assessment & Threat Analysis

Competent in contextual threat assessments Environmental, route, and venue risk profiling Understanding of South African criminal modus operandi and threat environments

Communications & Tactical Systems

Professional radio operations and comms discipline Knowledge of protective formations and movement procedures Ability to integrate into joint operations with SAPS, Metro, or other agencies

Soft Skills

High emotional intelligence Strong communication and professional etiquette Proven conflict-management and de-escalation skills High discretion and confidentiality compliance

3. Physical & Technical Assessment Requirements

Fitness Assessment

Evaluation includes:

Functional strength Cardiovascular endurance Agility and mobility Stress-performance tasks

Shooting Assessment

Using operational firearms:

Handgun and SLR accuracy drills Time-pressure engagements Malfunction and immediate-action drills Shooting in and around vehicles Protective formation shooting

Driving Assessment

Practical evaluation of:

High-speed vehicle control Emergency braking Evasive manoeuvres Anti-ambush techniques Convoy movements Protective pick-up/drop-off procedures

4. Additional Preferred Operational Exposure

Operational Experience

High-risk operations or rapid deployment unit background Prior work with HNWIs, executives, diplomats, or celebrities

Additional Certifications (Optional but Beneficial)

Security Risk Management Crowd Management Firefighting Level 1 4x4 Tactical Driving

Value-Add Tactical Skills

Candidates with the following will be considered highly competitive:

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) training

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ)

or other grappling-based self-defence systems Demonstrated capability in controlled physical engagement and restraint Strong close-quarter defence skills
