Job Description


Duties:

  • Arrange staffing for effective cleaning at all times
  • Manage ordering, issuing & monitoring of condition of cleaning tools & consumables used by cleaners
  • Liaise with respective Production Managers and supervisors on production scheduling and appropriate cleaning planning
  • Liaise with Outsource on scheduling of cleaning personnel as required Directly manage cleaning activities in all areas.
  • Monitor efficacy of cleaning activities in ice-cream and fruit plant, as well as all areas under direct management.
  • Implement corrective action for failed micro and follow through on remediation to satisfactory results.
  • Manage the storage & handling of cleaning equipment & cleaning tools in all areas
  • Manage & monitor cleaning personnel for efficient operation on an ongoing basis.
  • Manage the introduction of new cleaning chemicals, equipment & cleaning tools.
  • Ensure that the companys colour coding & chemical control policies & procedures are adhered to at all times by cleaning staff.
  • Work with FSO on routine weekly visits & monthly audits to ensure continued hygiene efficiency
  • Ensure waste removal is well controlled & immediately report instances where this is not happening. Start-up in Fruit Process High Risk areas
  • Chemical w-i-P cages in Sorbet plant & Fruit Process

  • Review & sign off records where applicable & ensure that non-conformances are reported to relevant Management, as well as corrective actions taken
  • Ensure that relevant policies, master sanitation schedule, procedures & standard forms are available where & to whom they are applicable
  • Regularly review & revise existing relevant policies, master sanitation schedule, procedures & standard forms to reflect accurate information
  • Provide the FSO and QA:QMS Manager with weekly performance reports on cleaning staff
  • Review & sign off records where applicable & ensure that non-conformances are reported to relevant Management, as well as corrective actions taken
  • Ensure that relevant policies, master sanitation schedule, procedures & standard forms are available where & to whom they are applicable
  • Regularly review & revise existing relevant policies, master sanitation schedule, procedures & standard forms to reflect accurate information
  • Provide the FSO and QA:QMS Manager with weekly performance reports on cleaning staff
  • Consult with FSO on results of environmental testing & implement corrective actions where required.
  • Provide input in resolving non-conformances
  • Provide input which may improve environmental hygiene or the management thereof
  • Food safety risk assessments new or revised according to documented triggers
  • Advise & assist in resolving Microbiology non-conformance issues
  • Report immediately, all production or maintenance issues which may impact on food safety
  • Monitor maintenance work & subsequent clean-up to ensure company policies are adhered to
  • Report non-conformances & recommend preventive measures or continuous improvements.
  • Follow-up on Action Requests initiated as a result of such reports
  • Specific upskilling of Cleaning Charge Hands and personnel in:
  • Sanitation procedures technique, accurate dosing, contact time etc.
  • Verification of concentrations/dilutions
  • Adherence to manufacturers prescribed minimum contact time
  • Chemical control and hazardous chemical handling
  • Food safety training specific to Cleaning & Sanitation
  • Other food safety & operational needs
  • Correlation of training records with the companys QA:QMS Mgr, QMS Assistant & Financial Mgr for SETA submission & claims
  • Conduct ad hoc internal pest control inspections to verify hygienic environment free from pest harborage or attraction conditions, eg. Waste areas, raw material and ingredients areas, etc.
  • Ensure the following are reported to the FSO:
  • pest sightings
  • missing devices
  • faulty or broken devices
  • stacking of material too close to walls, not allowing access for effective cleaning
  • Train and manage the Cleaning Charge hands responsible for conducting the weekly inspection against the Glass & Hard Plastics register
  • Conduct ad hoc inspections to verify information recorded by the Cleaning Charge hands
  • Report & manage glass & hard plastics breakage incidents according to company protocol.
  • Co-manage with Stores Admin Controller - chemical deliveries, internal labelling according to colour-code protocol, storage, usage & return of empty containers.
  • Monitor personnel in the handling of chemicals:
  • Awareness of dangers (safe handling)
  • Wearing of correct protective gear
  • Recognition of chemicals in use from both supplier & in-house labelling
  • Accurate & correct dosing method
  • Knowing where to locate closest MSDS file or posted MSDS when needed
Requirements:
  • Matric
  • Relevant Food Safety or Hygiene qualifications would be be highly advantageous
  • At least 3 to 5 years' experience as a Cleaning Supervisor in the FMCG, Food or Pharmaceutical Industry
  • Own reliable transportation
  • Strong leadership ability
  • Experience leading a team
  • Good communication skills
  • Good time management skills
