Job Description

Job Purpose

The successful applicant will be responsible, primarily for caring for babies and toddlers in the house, with a focus on creating a safe environment, and catering to physical and emotional needs.

Job Summary

• Spend time interacting with the children, playing, talking observing, etc.
• Supervise the children. Be present and visible at all times
• Full care of babies and toddlers from birth to 5 years including feeding, changing, stimulation, entertainment
• Clinic, hospital and doctors visits
• Ensure that formula, nappies and clothing are always available
• Manage behaviour
• Observe and record behaviour and emotional responses of children and design programmes and activities as a team, in order to meet the needs which, you have observed
• Report and record any unusual behaviour or incidents immediately to the supervisor
• Provide age appropriate equipment and toys. Get rid of broken equipment and toys and monitor children caring for the equipment and packing away after use etc.
• Life space intervention with the children
• Teaching the children life skills and age appropriate independence
• Supervision of meal times
• Making school lunch and preparing for school
• Administration of medication
• Fulfilling responsibilities laid out in each childs Individual Development Plan (IDP)

Administration

• Process notes/observation reports
• Behaviour management reports
• Incident reports
• Feedback reports

Supervision & training

• Individual supervision will occur weekly. The supervisor/ CYCW to arrange dates in consultation with the CYCW

Maintaining Jewish Cultures and Traditions

• Preparations for special religious holidays
• Ensure that Shabbat and religious requirements are fulfilled

• Be registered under the (SAPSSC) South African Council of Social Services
• Diploma / Degree or relevant FETC qualification in Child & Youth Care work
• Three to five years experience in practice (field work done during your study periods would not be considered as an experience gained in work practice but as part of obtained qualification)
• Greatest competence in activity programming, creating individuals and group activities to meet holistic needs for childrens wellbeing
• Demonstrate an ability to prepare, plan, implement and review age appropriate and empowering residential child and youth care programs that assists further growth towards children and youths development and independence
• Experience in the care of babies and toddlers
