GIRLS AND BOYS TOWN GLENWOOD FAMILY HOME FOR BOYS REQUIRES:

A Child and Youth Care Worker at the Glenwood Family Homes for Boys, which is situated in Sea Tides, Tongaat, KZN.

The position entails working with 10 boys. The full time position requires an experienced staff member who is committed to the care of youth, reliable and able to work flexible hours according to a duty roster including night duty. In-service training and on the job support will be provided. This position carries a competitive salary.

DUTIES:

  • Implementation of the Girls and Boys Town Long Term Residential Programme
  • Adherence to policies and procedures
  • Development and maintenance of effective and caring working relationships with youth, parents, colleagues and external agencies.
  • Engaging with the adolescents through sport, recreational and fun activities
  • Work as part of a therapeutic team in planning and achieving positive outcomes for young people
  • Seeing to all youth needs, including emotional, schooling, medical needs, etc.
  • Assisting with Family Home administration, including youth reports, motivation cards etc.
  • Contributing to the upkeep and general maintenance of the family home and resources.
  • Reporting to the Senior Child and Youth Care Worker.
  • This is a living out position although sleep overs will be necessary as required.
QUALIFICATION:
  • Grade 12/ Matric
  • Child and Youth Care qualification, An NQF Level 5 will be an added advantage
  • Experience Implementation of the GBT residential mode
  • Registration with SACSSP and proof of paid up subscriptions
  • Original certified copis of all qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Knowledge and a firm understanding of Childrens Rights and the Childrens Act
  • At least two years experience working with Adolescent youth
  • Ability and Courage to work with 10 boys with challenging behaviours, teaching Life and Social Skills
  • Being a strong positive role model to youth
  • Valid drivers license with current / regular driving involvement and a PDP will be required within 6 months after employement
  • Bilingual (additional African language an advantage)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Sensitivity to cultural and individual differences
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and standard household appliances
  • Being adaptable and flexible
