Primary Job Purpose:
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is accountable for the overall performance and strategic direction of a divisionalised (multi-business unit) organisation, ensuring alignment with the company's mission, values and long-term goals and fostering stakeholder confidence and trust through driving sustainable growth, profitability and long-term value creation. The CEO leads an Executive leadership team and steers multiple semi-autonomous business units, each run by a Managing Director, ensuring each division delivers against its financial, non-financial, operational, and strategic objectives while operating within a coherent Group strategy, culture, and governance framework.

Core Responsibilities:
Strategy & Enterprise Leadership:
  • Work closely with the Board of Directors and Executive team to set the strategic priorities and roadmap for the Group.
  • Drive the overarching long-term vision, strategy and growth roadmap of the organisation and ensure strategic priorities are clearly communicated and embedded across divisions.
  • Balance divisional autonomy with enterprise-wide strategic priorities and optimize synergies across the business.
  • Build and lead a high-performing executive leadership team characterized by agility, integrity and accountable leadership.
  • Review divisional strategies and ensure consistency with Group priorities.
  • Set clear performance expectations for divisional Managing Directors.
  • Intervene appropriately in under-performing divisions while preserving accountability.
Financial Stewardship & Value Creation:
  • Deliver consistently on board-approved Group-level financial targets.
  • Drive shareholder value creation and sustainable profitability across the organisation.
  • Hold divisional leaders accountable for P&L performance and return on funds employed.
  • Ensure disciplined capital allocation and investment decision-making.
  • Maintain robust financial controls and financial integrity.
  • Provide strategic direction for expansion and growth of the business and steer the agenda for and focus of mergers and acquisitions.
  • Monitor global industry trends, competitive landscape, and innovation pipelines.
  • Evaluate growth opportunities (organic and inorganic), including M&A, partnerships, and new markets.
  • Allocate capital effectively between divisions to maximise shareholder value.
Stakeholder Relations and Organisational Brand Strength:
  • Communicate the Group vision, mission, values and strategy clearly and credibly to internal and external audiences.
  • Act as the primary interface with the Board of Directors on performance, risk, and strategy.
  • Provide accurate, transparent and timely reporting of company performance, strategic progress to the Board, including emerging matters that may impact the business.
  • Co-create the ESG agenda of the organisation, steer related discourse with the Executive leadership and ensure it is a top priority across the business.
  • Uphold high standards of integrity, ESG responsibility, and corporate citizenship.
  • Build and maintain relationships with strategic stakeholders (board, partners, customers, and regulatory bodies).
  • Protect and enhance the organisation's reputation and brand strength across markets and sectors.
  • Act as the primary spokesperson for the organisation, representing the company at industry events and public forums.
Governance and Risk Stewardship:
  • Ensure robust enterprise governance and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain appropriate levels of central oversight without undermining divisional autonomy.
  • Uphold ethical standards and corporate responsibility.
  • Monitor and ensure enterprise-level risks are resolved or mitigated.
Leadership, Talent & Culture:
  • Foster a values-led, ethical, inclusive and performance-oriented company culture.
  • Model and entrench the values of the organisation.
  • Exhibit thought leadership around new ideas, strategies and opportunities.
  • Promote innovation, accountability, and performance excellence.

  • Define decision rights and delegation of authority between Group and divisions (e.g. capital, pricing, talent, risk).

SKILLS, COMPETENCIES, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Skills & Competencies:
  • Strong business performance track record delivering consistent, sustainable growth.
  • Compelling strategic, financial, and operational acumen.
  • Seasoned in managing a multi-faceted business through divisional leaders rather than direct operational control.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop senior leaders.
  • Extensive understanding of Pharmaceutical Industry and Health Care environment.
  • Established ability to operate in a complex, technical, financial and regulatory environment.
  • Demonstrated transformational leadership and servant leadership style.
  • Understanding of and proven track record of ESG delivery.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Commercial degree (s) / B. Pharm (preferred)
  • At least 15 years of leadership experience, preferably in the pharmaceutical or life sciences industry, of which a minimum of 10 years should be at senior leadership level, including significant tenure in an executive-level role.
  • Board-ready, with previous exposure to working with a Board of Directors advantageous.
  • Solid experience in Mergers & Acquisitions.
  • Sound experience in P&L ownership and capital allocation across multiple businesses.
  • Exposure to international or multi-market operations.
  • Proven credibility with investors and external stakeholders.
