Job Description


Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in business or related field
  • MBA from a recongised institute (preferred)
  • Minimum 10 years senior management experience.
  • Proven experience as CEO or in other managerial position.
  • Experience in developing profitable strategies and implementing vision.
  • Direct participation with a Board of Directors, specifically but not limited to; Audit, Risk & Strategy, finance committees, new business, and product development committee etc.
  • Experience in the Insurance (Short term and Life Insurance) Industry.
  • Experience in dealing with all regulatory and statutory bodies prescribed for the industry.
  • Demonstrate experience of management of change.
  • Proven leadership capabilities.
  • Experience in developing profitable strategies and implementing vision.
  • Ability to train, develop and manage executive teams.
  • Executive presence and ability maintain calm demeanor in high stress environments.
  • In-depth knowledge of corporate governance, compliance and general management best practices
  • Strong understanding of corporate finance and performance management principles.
  • Familiarity with diverse business functions such as marketing, PR, finance etc.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset with outstanding organizational and leadership skills.

Duties and responsibilities:

The Chief Executive Officer role is to drive and deliver on strategic and business performance namely but not limited to:

Set, approve, and oversee the implementation of the insurer's business objectives and strategies for achieving those objectives as agreed by the Executive Team and the Board of Directors. This should consider the long-term financial soundness of the insurer, the interests of its policyholders and other stakeholders, and the fair treatment of customers

Provide strategic input and leadership on decision making issues affecting the organization; specifically relating to the evaluation of potential mergers, acquisitions, or partnerships.

Establish and implement impartial and effective arrangements for communicating with the Prudential Authority, the FSCA and other financial sector regulators, to ensure that regulatory matters are properly prioritised and dealt with expeditiously and accurately.

Communicate effectively and establish credibility throughout the organization and with the Board of Directors as an effective developer of solutions to business challenges.

Continually monitor and manage acquisition, customer relationship management and retention of policy holders throughout their Lifecyle.

Regularly evaluate and monitor by reviewing the adequacy and effectiveness of the insurer's governance framework;

Plan, develop, implement, and direct the organisations operational and fiscal function and performance arranged to the appropriate governance frameworks.

Regularly review the insurers business objectives and strategies - analyse and make recommendation on the impact of long-range growth initiatives, planning, and introduction of new strategies and regulatory actions, which are consistent with the insurers broader policyholder and other stakeholder commitments;

Develop and provide accurate analysis of budgets, reports and financial trends and operational procedures to assist the board/s and senior executive team.

Create, improve, implement, and enforce policies and procedures of the organisation that will improve operational and financial effectiveness of the company.

The Chief Executive Officer must address any identified inadequacies or gaps in performance of other senior managers promptly and report same to the board of directors.

Evaluate companys financial, operational, and sales and marketing structures to plan for continual improvements and a continual increase of operating efficiencies.

Set and oversee the design and implementation of sound risk management and internal control systems and functions as set out in GOI 3 (Risk Management and Internal Controls)

Set and oversee the effective implementation of all material policies as set out in Attachment 1 of GOI 3 (Risk Management and Internal Controls) of the insurer.

Mentor and interact with members of staff at all levels to foster growth and encourage development among senior executive team and all members of staff.
