THE POSITION OF GROUP CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER:

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) holds an executive role and is responsible for developing the Group Finance Strategy in conjunction with the Group CEO and the Board of Directors. This role involves planning, implementing, managing, and overseeing all finance activities, including business planning, budgeting, forecasting, negotiations, investor relations, partnerships compliance, audit, fiscal aspects, and financial controls

a) STRATEGIC DEVELOPMENT AND DIRECTION:

  • Lead, manage, and provide guidance to finance and accounting teams across the Group.
  • Offer strategic recommendations to the Group CEO and Executive Management Team.
  • Contribute to the development of strategic and annual performance plans.
  • Establish relations with senior management, external partners, and stakeholders.
  • Assist in developing a strategic direction for Board approval.
  • Serve as a sounding board for strategic financial decisions.
  • Advise the Board on risks and compliance.
  • Oversee the Group's financial position, banking, financing activities, capital structure, and tax strategies.
  • Chair the Group Finance Forum, meeting four times a year.
b) POLICY DEVELOPMENT AND TACTICAL PLANS:
  • Develop financial policies and procedures.
  • Align policies with accounting and legislative standards.
  • Initiate contemporary financial policies.
  • Implement plans to safeguard against non-compliance.
  • Manage accounting internal control policies.
  • Stay updated on relevant accounting standards.
c) CORPORATE FINANCE, BUDGETING, AND REPORTING:
  • Provide professional financial services.
  • Develop Annual Budget and Capital Budget components.
  • Manage long-term financial plans.
  • Produce financial reports, including Audited Financial Statements.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards.
  • Evaluate and implement financial systems.
  • Manage tax procedures, cash flow, investments, and loans.
  • Maintain financial performance indicators.
  • Ensure timely year-end deadlines and accurate figures.
  • Manage insurance coverage.
d) GOVERNANCE:
  • Adhere to Group Policies, Procedures, and relevant laws.
  • Ensure high-quality reporting to the Executive and the Board.
  • Implement Exco Resolutions.
  • Adhere to occupational health & safety policies.
  • Identify and manage areas of risk.
e) LEADERSHIP AND PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT:
  • Lead and develop the Finance team.
  • Review performance, interview, counsel, and train.
  • Ensure resource utilization for strategic goals.

i. Skills
  • Above average negotiation and cooperation abilities with colleagues, staff, and stakeholders (internal & external)
  • Strong problem-solving, planning, and task prioritization skills
  • Leadership skills encompassing mentoring, motivation, conflict resolution, and staff development
  • Proficient in providing detailed written reports for financial results and policy documentation
  • Utilizes performance standards and measurement systems for personal and team assessment
  • Effective handling of sensitive issues, including macro-economic and political matters
  • Operates autonomously with minimal professional direction
  • Establishes effective relationships with executive management
  • Competent in financial administration, budget forecasting, and financial procedure monitoring
  • Applies accounting theory to computerized accounting systems
  • Proficient in assessing, recommending, and implementing financial software
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
ii. Knowledge
  • Familiarity with applicable legislative and regulatory frameworks
  • Understanding of organizational structures
  • Knowledgeable about Group Policies and Finance Policies and Procedures
  • Proficient in principles of business administration
  • Expertise in financial accounting, financial planning, and budgeting principles and practices
  • Familiarity with costing methodologies and practices
  • Understanding of the framework for managing performance information
  • Knowledge of financial management concepts such as value for money, sustainability, gearing, liquidity, return on investment, return on capital employed, etc.
  • Proficiency in tools and techniques for planning, budgeting, and reporting
  • Understanding of capital investment appraisals for business plans and projects
  • Knowledge of IFRIS and Tax Legislation
iii. Experience and Qualifications
  • Holds a degree in Accounting
  • Registered and certified with a professional body as a Chartered Accountant
  • Preferably possesses an MBA or equivalent qualifications for the CFO role
  • Formal postgraduate qualifications in management highly desirable for the CFO
  • Extensive experience in financial management and control, payroll, and tax accounting
  • Auditing experience highly desirable
  • Has at least 8 years of continuous involvement at a Senior Management level
