Tsebo Facilities Solutions is looking for a Carpenter to provide technical support with regard to reactive maintenance and planned preventative maintenance on plant and equipment, furniture and fixtures, within the service level requirements.



To work with wood and other material to construct, install, and repair various structures and fixtures. Utilization of knowledge in carpentry techniques, tools and materials to create and assemble a wide range of items, including furniture, cabinets, doors, windows, floors, walls, roofs, measuring, cutting, shaping, joining and finishing wood and other building materials to build or repair structures that meet specific requirements and design specifications.

Duties & Responsibilities



Carpentry Services, Maintenance & Repairs

:




Undertake Planned Preventative Maintenance Tasks allocated by the Supervisor or Maintenance Planner. Undertake Re-active Maintenance Tasks and Repairs allocated by the Supervisor or Maintenance Planner. Ensure that best Operating Practice is applied when undertaking Maintenance Tasks / Repairs, especially of a carpentry nature. Provide a list of required materials to Supervisor, Maintenance Planner or Stores Administrator to enable successful execution of Maintenance Tasks. Assist in keeping workshop tidy and presentable. Complete and issue Check Sheets to Supervisor on a weekly basis.

Building maintenance environment




Responsible for assessing, repairing, and maintaining various structures within the building, such as doors, windows, floors, and walls. The objective is to ensure they are safe, structurally sound, and in proper working condition.

Re-active Maintenance




Promptly respond to maintenance request from building occupants or management. The objective is to address the reported issues efficiently and effectively, minimizing disruption and ensuring Occupant's satisfaction.

Maintenance schedule and Preventive maintenance




Proactively inspect and maintain carpentry elements in the building to prevent potential issues or minimize their impact.

Teamwork




Building maintenance often involves working alongside other professionals, such as electricians, plumbers and HVAC technicians. The objective is to collaborate effectively, communicate any relevant information, and coordinate tasks to ensure smooth operations. Perform carpentry repairs and renovations as required, including fixing damaged doors, windows, floors, walls, or other wooden structures within the building. Install, repair, and maintain wooden fixtures, fittings, and furniture within the building, such as cabinets, shelves, staircases, handrails, doors, windows, cabinets, stairs, mouldings, and other fixtures with precision and attention to detail. Conduct regular inspections and assessments of wooden structures to identify any signs of damage, wear, or potential hazards. Provide recommendations for repairs or replacements as necessary. Select appropriate materials for carpentry projects and ensure their procurement. This may involve estimating quantities, sourcing suppliers, and coordinating deliveries. Adhere to safety regulations and best practices while performing carpentry tasks. Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure compliance with building codes and industry standards. Maintain records of maintenance activities, including work orders, repair logs, and materials used. Provide accurate and timely reports on completed tasks, ongoing projects, and any outstanding issues. Interact professionally with building occupants, management, and other team members. Listen to their concerns, provide updates on maintenance activities, and ensure clear and effective communication throughout the process.

They should be familiar with various hand and power tools used in carpentry, such as saws, drills, chisels, planes, and routers Blueprint Reading: Carpenters often need to interpret and understand blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to plan their work and ensure accurate measurements and installations. Construction Techniques: They should be knowledgeable about different construction techniques and methods, such as framing, finishing, and cabinetry. Carpenters may be involved in building and installing structures like walls, floors, roofs, doors, windows, cabinets, and furniture. Material Selection and Estimation: Carpenters should have the ability to select appropriate materials for each project, considering factors such as durability, aesthetics, and budget. They should also be able to estimate material quantities accurately to minimize wastage and control costs. Installation and Assembly: Carpenters are responsible for the installation and assembly of various components, including framing, trim, mouldings, cabinets, stairs, and fixtures. They should ensure precise measurements, level installations, and proper alignment. Safety Compliance: It's crucial for carpenters to follow safety guidelines and regulations to maintain a safe working environment. This includes proper use and maintenance of tools, wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), and implementing safety measures to prevent accidents. Problem Solving: Carpenters often encounter challenges and unforeseen issues during construction or repair projects. They should possess oblem-solving skills to identify solutions, make adjustments, and troubleshoot problems effectively. Communication and Collaboration: Carpenters frequently work as part of a team, collaborating with architects, contractors, and other tradespeople. Effective communication skills are essential for understanding project requirements, coordinating tasks, and resolving conflicts. Time Management: Carpenters should be able to manage their time efficiently, ensuring that projects are completed within specified timelines. They should prioritize tasks, schedule work accordingly, and adapt to changing project demands. Continuous Learning: Staying updated with new tools, techniques, and industry trends is vital for a carpenter's professional growth. They should be open to learning and improving their skills through training programs, workshops, and self-study.

Qualifications



Grade 12 Carpenter Diploma or Recognition of previous learning in the field of carpentry 3-year experience Good knowledge of carpentry repairs and maintenance * Knowledge of tools and materials used in the assigned area of responsibility.
