Job Description

A well-established furniture retail company based in the East Rand is seeking a dependable and skilled carpenter to join its workshop team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years' experience, preferably within the carpentry industry, and demonstrate a strong commitment to craftsmanship and reliability.

Minimum Requirements

South African citizen or foreign national with a valid work permit and passport Minimum 5 years' experience in furniture carpentry At least 2 contactable references (not older than 3 years) Multiskilled across carpentry functions Available to work on weekends when required
Key Responsibilities

Interpreting and taking accurate measurements Cutting and shaping wood using hand and power tools Applying joinery techniques: mortise & tenon, dovetail, biscuit, dowel, and fastener systems Assembling furniture components with precision Finishing surfaces: sanding, staining, varnishing, painting, oiling Repairing and restoring furniture pieces
Skills & Attributes

Strong knowledge of wood types, veneers, plywood's and fittings Creative problem-solving and design adaptability Time management and ability to meet deadlines Quality control and attention to detail Health & safety awareness (PPE, dust control, safe machinery use) Team collaboration with designers, upholsterers, polishers, and sales staff
