The Opportunity: Business Intelligence Intern
Are you eager to dive into data analysis and reporting to support humanitarian fundraising? As a Business Intelligence Intern at MSF Southern Africa, you'll assist the Business Intelligence Specialist in building, maintaining, and analyzing reports to drive insights on donor trends and income performance. This part-time role offers valuable experience in tools like PowerBI, Salesforce, and Excel, helping optimize our fundraising efforts and contribute to life-saving missions worldwide.
What You'll Do
Building and maintenance of PowerBI, Salesforce, and Excel reports: Update income and expenditure reports; create ad hoc reports as needed; use basic programming languages to extract, clean, and transform data for ingestion into reports.
Analysis of reports and database: Conduct in-depth analysis on income and donor trends, income vs. expenditure relationships, and donor characteristics; support the team with ad hoc analysis.
Monthly Call Centre Income Report compilation: Compile monthly income reports from call center data; reconcile income and donor numbers; report on trends and donor behavior in call center campaigns.
Testing and Improvements: Participate in testing and enhancing the reporting ecosystem; identify opportunities for automation or system improvements.
Internal Data Use Mapping (10% Focus): Document how teams (Acquisition, Retention, Philanthropy) use internal reports; interview team members and interns on gaps and insights; evaluate report relevance and suggest enhancements; propose improvements to increase usability; hold weekly sync meetings with interns; co-develop a mini guide on key reports; research best practices for reporting in Digital, Acquisition, Retention, and Philanthropy; test new ideas.
Who We're Looking For
We're seeking a curious, detail-oriented individual with a passion for data-driven insights and humanitarian work, ready to collaborate in a fast-paced fundraising team.
Here's what you bring:
Qualifications & Skills
A Diploma or degree in Informatics, Data Analytics, Marketing, Information Systems, or a related field.
Experience using CRM systems (preferably Salesforce); familiarity with visualization tools (preferably PowerBI).
Exposure to data extraction, cleaning, and reconciliation using basic programming languages; familiarity with documenting processes or system testing is an advantage.
Strong Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, conditional formulas).
Understanding of basic Salesforce functionality, data structures, and PowerBI functionality.
Excellent attention to detail, data accuracy, and comfort with large datasets. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
