WSP South Africa is looking for an experienced and passionate Registered Professional Mechanical Engineer specialising in bulk materials handling who will function as a senior design engineer and project manager on bulk materials handling projects in South Africa and also able to support the international business as required.
Key Responsibilities
Lead multi-disciplinary teams of Engineers, Designers and other staff through completion of multiple simultaneous projects ranging from small to large with a wide range of complexities and requirements
Project management and interfacing with other engineering disciplines on multi-disciplinary projects
Provide technical input from initial assessment through technical and economic feasibility to design development and construction implementation to project close out
Manage relationships with project stakeholders, including internal and external clients and vendors, regulatory authorities and technical agencies, and the public. This involves keeping the stakeholders informed of progress and issues in order to manage expectations on all project requirements and deliverables, and meet the project schedule
Carry out investigations, surveys, design, engineering calculations and preparation of working drawings and estimates
Review overall project design and suggest technical and design improvements
Be responsible for the bulk materials handling design across various project
Assist with the preparation of cost estimates on project designs
Keep up to date with industry advances, and be aware of policy and technical developments in this discipline
Review technical submissions, assessing technical risks and proposing mitigation strategies to reduce risk exposure in project
Assist with and/or conduct any other necessary aspects of a project that fall within the discipline of the role.
Monitoring project construction and acceptance including site visits and commissioning supervision; and
Ability to work in a team environment and must have excellent verbal and written skills
Undertake and lead team to execute bulk materials handling engineering design tasks as part of project development
As Team Leader, provide mentoring, assistance, encouragement and motivation to team members and junior engineers
Proactively track and report workload management throughout the project

Qualifications and Experience Required
B Tech / BEng or BSc Mechnical Engineering
Professional Registration (PrEng/ Pr Tech Eng)
5 - 8 years' experience in design engineering
Strong understanding of materials handling principles and equipment.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Experience with Resources and Clients
Detail oriented with ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Familiarity reading drawings and specifications
Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including experience making presentations to senior management
Exceptional interpersonal skills
Ability to work well with people from many different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience
Adaptability and flexibility including the ability to manage deadline pressure, ambiguity and change
Post graduate qualifications will be advantageous
