Perform daily duties under the SUPERVISION of a registered Medical Technician/ Medical Technologist/MLS/Pathologist, carrying out the normal duties and functions within a professional Laboratory Service. These duties and functions include, inter alia:
Responsible for the day-to-day working in the laboratory to achieve an efficient and cost-effective service in keeping with relevant standard operating procedures/working instructions.
Record the temperature of the room and fridges.
Sound knowledge of the operations of the laboratory's general equipment.
Maintenance on all equipment used for analysis - ensuring all controls and calibrations are done on all relevant equipment.
The quality controls must be checked; only then will the results be released, in accordance with Westgard Rules.
Levy Jennings' quality control charts must be printed.
Decontamination of all equipment and bench tops.
Ensure that all urgent samples are given priority.
Assist specimen reception with receiving specimens, data capturing, and demo checking of patient requests.
Reagent preparation, when necessary, in consultation with the lab manager.
Troubleshooting to prevent serious or unacceptable incidents involving specimens.
Report all malfunctions to the laboratory manager.
Ensure that relevant protocols are maintained and updated.
To participate and assist in laboratory projects.
Perform after-hours duties.
Perform all duties as per the shift Roster.
Reporting of laboratory results.
Assist in performing EQA analysis.
Ad hoc duties.
Requirements:
BSC degree or any Science-related degree.
Good planning and attention to detail.
Able to work independently.
Computer literate (MS package).
Perform after-hours, shift duties, weekend work and public holidays (own transport).
