Job Summary Are you a detail-oriented individual with a passion for data and a talent for ensuring data accuracy and quality? If so, we're seeking a skilled BI Test Engineer to join our team and play a crucial role in assuring the quality and reliability of our business intelligence solutions. What you'll do: Working with a team of software engineers, and data analysts in the BI space to support our business strategic needs as part of the Customer and Insight Portfolio. Writing SQL code for testing and QA purposes. Analysis of requirements and technical documents to extract test cases. Building, executing, and monitoring test plans. Root cause analysis and problem-solving. Building data pipelines, models, and dashboards for data quality monitoring. Exposure to automated scripting and frameworks. Helping data engineers with finding defects. Assisting the engineering team in producing high-quality solutions. System integration testing with peer systems and teams. Gathering and certifying data for regression testing activities, including coordination of regression testing and interpreting the results for software releases. Creation and review of testing documentation such as specifications, testing plans, validation reports, and of other software QC-related documents as necessary. Building the test packs for all phases of the project thus allowing reuse for further releases. Reviewing business and system requirements to ensure testability and to identify issues early. Preparing test plans and test schedules. Designing test cases and test scenarios to effectively test systems and applications. Applying test methods, techniques, and standards, including internal functional testing; usability testing; load testing; regression testing; and performance testing. Executing test cases to evaluate system quality and mitigate risk. Performing a variety of different functional and non-functional testing types. Identifying and investigating issues. Participate and run defect management process. Test Planning and Test Analysis. Technical Proficiency: Extensive knowledge of SQL, with a focus on Microsoft SQL Server. Experience writing SQL scripts, procedures, views, and functions. Experience testing data integration pipelines. Working knowledge of Dimensional Modelling and Data Warehousing. Experience building test automation frameworks. Experience with a reporting and visualization tool (Tableau/ Pyramid Analytics). Experience building data-quality dashboards. Experience working in an Agile environment. Exposure to ALM tools such as Jira, Quality Centre, or Azure DevOps. Experience working with API tools (SoapUI or Postman) to test back-end microservices. Qualification Required: Relevant IT/ Testing/ BI Qualification ISTQB Other information applicable to the opportunity: We are ideally looking to get someone on board on an initial contract (we are open to a conversation regarding options). Ideally, someone based in Cape Town, but we can consider someone outside of Cape Town. Years of experience/ Level: 5+ years (strong intermediate to senior). Someone who knows SQL and SQL back-end quite well which includes: Understanding of database management systems. Understanding of writing SQL scripts and knowing how stored procedures, etc. work from a Database perspective. Someone who perhaps comes from a development background (technical background).
