Duties & Responsibilities

Prepare and serve a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages according to standardized recipes and customer preferences. Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked bar area at all times. Ensure all glassware, utensils, and equipment are cleaned and sanitized regularly. Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering and restocking supplies. Track usage and wastage to support cost control and stock management. Assist in developing and updating beverage menus, including seasonal specials and promotions. Provide prompt, courteous, and professional service to all guests. Handle cash and card transactions accurately and responsibly. Uphold all health, safety, and hygiene standards, including responsible alcohol service. Engage with guests to create a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere. Collaborate with kitchen and front-of-house staff to ensure smooth service flow. Report maintenance issues or supply shortages to management promptly. Support training and mentoring of junior bar staff or new team members. Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas to improve service and efficiency. Stay updated on industry trends.

Skills and Competencies

Strong knowledge of classic and contemporary cocktails, spirits, wines, and non-alcoholic beverages. Ability to engage with guests in a friendly, professional manner and provide a memorable experience. Precision in drink preparation, cleanliness, and presentation. Clear and effective verbal communication with guests and team members. Ability to multitask and work efficiently during busy service periods. Confidence in handling cash, processing payments, and managing tabs. Willingness to work closely with kitchen and front-of-house staff to ensure smooth operations. Ability to handle guest complaints or issues calmly and professionally. Comfortable working in a fast-paced, changing environment with varying shifts. Familiarity with beverage trends, ingredients, and responsible alcohol service. Understanding of stock rotation, ordering processes, and minimizing waste. Punctual, reliable, and well-groomed with a strong work ethic.

Qualifications

Matric. Proven experience as a bar attendant or bartender (1-2 years preferred). Basic knowledge of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. * Food & Beverage or Hospitality qualification (advantageous).
