Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and motivated

Bakery Operations Manager

to oversee the daily operations of our high-volume bakery. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader with a strong background in bakery production, inventory management, and team supervision.

Key Responsibilities:



Team & Staff Management



Lead a team of bakers and confectioners to consistently produce high-quality baked goods

Provide training, coaching, and performance feedback

Participate in hiring, onboarding, and staff development

Conduct daily meetings to align team goals and improve productivity

Inventory & Stock Control



Order stock, liaise with suppliers, and manage inventory levels

Ensure FIFO procedures, no expired stock, and no stockouts

Develop and maintain receiving and storage processes

Production Oversight



Oversee hygienic preparation, baking, and display of product range

Maintain cleanliness and housekeeping standards in the bakery

Determine daily product range and volumes based on demand

Costing & Pricing



Calculate product costs and set competitive selling prices

Store & Client Relationship Management



Maintain positive, professional relationships with supermarket store managers and in-store bakery managers

Treat store feedback with urgency and respect, ensuring prompt resolutions to concerns

Support store loyalty through consistent communication and service excellence

Sales, Quality & Admin



Monitor quality, minimize waste, and meet sales targets

Resolve customer complaints professionally and promptly

Approve invoices, sign off timesheets, and manage duty rosters

Requirements



Education:



Grade 12 (mandatory)

Preferred:



Diploma or Degree in one of the following fields:

Food Technology

Baking & Pastry Arts

Hospitality Management

Business Management / Operations Management

Certifications (Highly Recommended):



Food Safety & Hygiene Certification (mandatory in many regions)

HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) training

Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) certification

First Aid/Fire Safety training (especially in production environments)

Experience:



5+ years of experience in bakery production, including:

At least 2-3 years in a supervisory or management role

Experience in a plant or commercial bakery environment

Familiarity with retail supply chains and supermarket client relations
