The Autobody Prepper is responsible for preparing vehicles for bodywork, repair, and refinishing. This includes cleaning, sanding, masking, and prepping vehicle surfaces for paint or other finishing materials to ensure a high-quality finish.
Key Responsibilities:
Surface Preparation:
Sand, grind, and smooth the vehicle's surface to remove imperfections, rust, or previous coatings.
Masking:
Mask areas that should not be painted, including windows, trim, and rubber seals, using tape, plastic, or paper.
Cleaning:
Clean the vehicle's surface to remove dirt, oils, grease, and other contaminants that may affect the painting process.
Priming and Coating:
Apply primers and undercoats as needed to provide a smooth surface for final paint application.
Bodywork Assistance:
Assist in minor repairs to vehicle body panels, such as filling dents or scratches with appropriate materials.
Quality Control:
Inspect vehicle surfaces to ensure they are free of imperfections and ready for the next stage of the refinishing process.
Safety Compliance:
Ensure proper handling and disposal of materials, chemicals, and tools while adhering to safety regulations.
Collaboration:
Work closely with autobody technicians and painters to ensure a smooth workflow and high-quality results.
