Job Title: Au Pair for 9-year-old boy xe2x80x93 Paarl area. We are currently seeking an au pair to support a neurodivergent 9-year-old boy at home. He has a special interest in animals and wildlife, he loves playing soccer, collecting coins, playing Pokemon games and engaging in elemental play. Main Purpose of the job: To be a xe2x80x9chelping handxe2x80x9d to an individual with unique and specific challenges and support needs, giving him the necessary guidance and support to thrive. A special interest and passion to be a secure, long-term source of support to a neurodivergent individual is of the utmost importance. The candidate will be trained by the NDC Facilitation Academy and thereafter receive personalised support from a registered counsellor for up to one month, working in collaboration with a psychologist and the wider multidisciplinary team based at the Neurodiversity Centre. Job Objectives: To collaborate with a team to support the young individualxe2x80x99s needs. Providing companionship and emotional support to the child at home. Support and scaffolding for his regulation needs (lessening uncertainty and anxiety for him). To plan and organise suitable fun educational activities and outings for the individual. Going for walks/doing outdoor activities together. Preparing meals and snacks tailored to the childxe2x80x99s needs. Occasional driving for outings. General Requirements: A valid driverxe2x80x99s license and reliable car xe2x80x93 Essential. Fluent in English. Education Requirements A relevant qualification or a student currently still studying in psychology, occupational therapy, or special needs education xe2x80x93 Desirable. Job Related work experience. Previous experience in an au pair role supporting a neurodivergent children or adults Essential. Experience in an educational setting as a tutor or experience with homework/educational fun activities from au pairing xe2x80x93 Desirable. Job Related Knowledge: Familiarity and knowledge of Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) xe2x80x93 Desirable. Familiarity with a low arousal approach xe2x80x93 Essential. Knowledge of the unique support needs of a neurodiverse individual xe2x80x93 Essential. Knowledge of a neurodivergent personxe2x80x99s sensory challenges, e.g., pertaining to sound xe2x80x93 Desirable. Job Related Skills: Ability to minimize stress and anxiety for the individual by utilizing a low arousal approach - Essential. Strong verbal communication skills xe2x80x93 Essential. Organizational skills, i.e., ability to implement structure - Essential. Social and life skills xe2x80x93 Essential. Relationship building skills - Essential.
