Job Summary
This role is ideal for someone with a genuine passion for working with neurodivergent children and a natural ability to connect through play. The position involves supporting two bright and active brothers, aged 9 and 4, who enjoy outdoor play, board games, and imaginative activities. The ideal candidate is playful yet consistent, physically active, dependable, and confident in holding gentle boundaries. A light-hearted approach, combined with reliability and responsibility, is essential in this supportive au pair role.
Main Purpose of the job:
To be a helping hand for their unique and specific support needs, giving them the necessary guidance and support to thrive. A special interest and passion in neurodiversity and being a secure, long-term source of support are of the utmost importance.
Job Objectives:

  • Provide companionship and emotional support at home, creating a calm and reassuring environment.
  • Offer support and scaffolding for emotional regulation, helping to reduce uncertainty and anxiety.
  • Assist with daily responsibilities such as planning outings, attending appointments, preparing meals and snacks, and accompanying the children to therapy sessions and extra-mural activities.
  • Support each child's individual needs, including their executive functioning skills, by helping to establish consistent routines and using visual aids when needed.
  • Plan and engage in fun, creative, and physically active outdoor activities.
  • Assist with daily preparation for school, including packing school bags and ensuring all necessary items are ready for the next day.
Requirements
General Requirements:
  • A valid driver's license and reliable car - Essential.
  • Fluent in English- Essential.
  • Availability to commit to at least 1 year - Essential.
Job-Related work experience:
  • Previous experience in an au pairing role - Essential.
  • Previous experience working with young children - Essential.
  • Previous experience working with neurodivergent children - Essential.
Job-Related Knowledge:
Familiarity and knowledge of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) - Essential.
Familiarity and knowledge of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) - Essential.
  • Familiarity with a low arousal, neuro-affirming approach - Essential.
Job-Related Skills:
  • Ability to minimise stress and anxiety for them by utilising a low arousal approach - Essential.
  • Strong communication skills with the boys and parents - Essential.
  • Organisational skills, i.e., ability to implement structure, strong time management imperative, consistency - Essential.
  • Social, play and life skills - Essential.
  • Relationship building skills - Essential.
Benefits
Benefits:
  • Support and training from the NDC Facilitation Academy
Working Hours & Compensation:
  • Monday to Thursday: 14:00 - 18:00
  • Friday: 12:00 - 16:00
  • Compensation: R7,000 - R9,600 per month (includes school holidays, though hours may vary during these periods)
  • Additional Hours: Occasional babysitting, compensated separately
