Job Purpose

To perform advanced veterinary diagnostic testing and ensure the accuracy, efficiency, and compliance of laboratory operations. The role includes technical signatory responsibilities, mentoring, and continuous improvement of laboratory methods and systems.

Key Responsibilities

Testing & Analysis

Perform routine and advanced veterinary diagnostic tests. Independently troubleshoot testing issues to ensure accuracy and reliability.

Quality & Compliance

Verify and interpret test results against reference standards. Ensure all work complies with OHS and Quality Assurance protocols. Implement corrective actions and maintain acceptable proficiency scores.

Method Development & SOPs

Update and improve testing methods based on industry developments. Write and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Act as technical signatory for 80-100% of departmental tests.

Turnaround Time Management

Monitor and meet departmental turnaround times (TATs). Proactively communicate delays to supervisors.

Instrument & Equipment Oversight

Clean, disinfect, and maintain laboratory instruments. Report calibration and servicing needs to management.

Stock & Cost Control

Maintain optimal stock levels for testing. Manage consumable usage and control costs.

Training & Mentorship

Complete required training courses. Mentor and coach junior team members.

Client Interaction

Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external clients.

Operational Support

Ensure compliance with AssureCloud's policies, systems, and reporting standards. Use IT tools effectively and contribute to efficient daily operations.

Qualifications

National Diploma or Degree in Veterinary Technology. Registered with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC).

Experience

3-5 years' experience in a veterinary laboratory. Experience as a technical signatory (advantageous).

Skills & Knowledge

Strong diagnostic and analytical skills. Familiarity with ISO 17025 and SANAS standards. Ability to mentor and lead. Excellent communication and troubleshooting abilities.
