CORE PURPOSE OF JOB
Responsible for teaching and learning, research, and community engagement and to support the department/faculty in pursuit of its academic objectives. The successful candidate will strategically capacitate the department to develop the profile as part of the strategy to revitalize the Humanities and show growth in the areas of procurement/public finance/disaster and risk management; Responsibilities may also include curriculum development, work integrated learning, student academic development, administration, quality assurance and health and safety in order to contribute to the academic initiatives undertaken by the department/faculty.
The successful candidate will be a dynamic, independent scholar with a promising career in the Public Administration and Management and will contribute to the vitality of a vibrant departmental culture.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • Facilitation of learning and teaching within the discipline of Public Administration and Management;
  • Supervision of post-graduate research
  • Perform academic administration, in relation to the expectations of the qualifications in Public Administration and
Management.
  • Develop relevant course and module content in collaboration with staff in the discipline of Public Administration and
Management.
  • Grow and develop research and teaching capacity in areas of procurement/public finance/disaster and risk management
  • Participate in engagement within the University and wider community.
  • Participate in Work Integrated Learning initiatives within the department.
  • Contribute to Quality Assurance through committee meetings and submission of relevant documents.
  • Develop relevant reports as and when required.
CORE COMPETENCIES
  • Sound knowledge in the theory, and application of Public Administration and Management
  • Experience in facilitating learning at the undergraduate and post-graduate level, especially teaching large undergraduate classes
  • Demonstrate the potential to supervise at a post-graduate level
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to the creation of knowledge, by virtue of publications and successful supervision of post-graduate research
  • Research track in areas of procurement/public finance/disaster and risk management
  • Show potential in conducting research in public administration and management
  • Ability to organise annual memorial lectures; organise and manage short learning programmes and other community engagement activities
  • Potential to contribute to departmental administration
  • Ability to work in a team constructively and operate independently in a complexed Higher Education environment
REQUIREMENTS
To be considered for appointment to this post candidates should have:
  • Honours degree in Public Administration/Public Management
  • Two or more years relevant lecturing experience, at a public Higher Education Institution, in the discipline of Public Administration and Management, with a track record of teaching large undergraduate classes
  • Facilitating learning at higher education both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
  • Research track in areas of procurement/public finance/human resource management/disaster and risk management, and
  • Demonstrate the potential for publishable scholarly output
