EY's Strategy and Transactions (SaT) practice offers strategic corporate clients and private equity clients professional transaction advice and services, from the strategic analysis phase of the transaction lifecycle, through execution, to transaction integration. We help clients determine the right deal to do, and then assist them in doing the deal right.
The opportunity
Within SaT, the Minvest team advises clients on a variety of issues concerning their mining investments, mineral resource estimations, technical reviews, mineral asset valuations, financing and strategic options within the minerals, oil and gas industries. The Minvest team is a specialised mining, oil and gas team of experienced technical professionals including environmental scientists, petroleum engineers, geologists, mining engineers and chemical engineers. We currently have an exciting new opportunity for geology professionals with senior level experience, based in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Your key responsibilities
This exciting opportunity includes but not limited to:

• Resource modelling and estimation in accordance with internationally recognised codes and guidelines.
• Providing geological input to the evaluation of exploration properties for development into production assets
• Providing geological investigations and input for studies on new projects and opportunities
• Delivery of models and information on time and on budget as well as providing geological due diligence of growth targets
• Undertake technical reviews and due diligence of natural resources
• Collaborate with other technical disciplines to solve complex client issues
• You will also be tasked with ensuring potential increases in resources and reserves are included during evaluation process for studies and managing and auditing of geological resource databases
• Actively be involved in Business Development This will involve promoting Minvest service offerings to clients, contributing to marketing material, writing and publication of academic journals
• Be actively involved in pursuit and RFP Management

Skills and attributes for success

• Advising mining and/or oil and gas clients on financial and strategic optionality (will be an advantage)
• Analysing and interpreting geological data using computer software
• Locating and estimation of mineral ore deposits and prepare geological maps, charts and reports concerning mineral extraction
• Identifying risks for natural disasters such as mud slides and earthquakes
• Investigating the composition of the earth's surface
• Collecting samples of natural resources through drilling and other methods
• Communicating findings in the form of reports, meetings etc.
• Technical Due Diligence and Review for Audit purposes as well as Independent External reviews.
• Experience in International Public Reporting Codes including but not limited to: SAMREC, NI43-101, JORC, SK1300 and other
• Strong project management skills
• Sound understanding of the mining value-chain
• Mentoring and coaching through succession planning to allow for growth and development of junior staff members
• Mineral asset valuation experience (will be an advantage).
• Be a Competent Person in multiple commodities
• Willingness to travel to remote locations

To qualify for the role you must have

• As a minimum a Bachelor's degree in Geology or related discipline essential. A Master's Degree would be advantageous.
• More than 15 years relevant practical mining experience at a mining operation or consulting company
• Strong interpersonal and communications skills, with the ability to building internal and external networks
• Strong computer skills including MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and general report writing skills

Ideally, you'll need to have

• A financial or an accounting qualification (or currently studying towards it)
• Previous consulting experience
• Experience in report writing that is compliant with Mineral Resources
• Experience in management of teams and projects. This will involve tracking of budgets and managing project schedule
• Experience in multiple commodities would be an added advantage
• Professional Registration with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP)
