To support mechanical technicians in maintaining, repairing, and optimizing production machinery used in cigarette manufacturing. The role ensures smooth operations, minimal downtime, and adherence to safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in routine maintenance, servicing, and repair of mechanical equipment (e.g., cutters, rollers, conveyors, packaging machines).
Support technicians during breakdowns by preparing tools, parts, and assisting with troubleshooting.
Conduct basic inspections and report abnormalities in machine performance.
Clean, lubricate, and adjust machinery components under supervision.
Maintain accurate records of work performed, parts used, and maintenance schedules.
Ensure compliance with health, safety, and tobacco industry regulations.
Collaborate with production teams to minimise downtime and improve efficiency.
Assist in installation and commissioning of new equipment when required.
Skills & Competencies
Basic mechanical knowledge (tools, equipment, machine operations).
Ability to read and understand technical manuals and diagrams.
Strong attention to detail and problem?solving mindset.
Team player with good communication skills.
Willingness to learn and follow instructions from senior technicians.
Knowledge of safety protocols in a manufacturing environment.
Qualifications & Experience
Matric / NQF Level 4 (technical subjects advantageous).
Certificate or diploma in Mechanical Engineering / Fitting & Turning . TRADE TEST
1-2 years' experience in a manufacturing or mechanical support role.
Exposure to tobacco or FMCG production machinery will be an advantage.
Working Conditions
Plant?based role with exposure to tobacco dust, noise, and rotating machinery.
Requires use of PPE at all times.
Shift work and overtime may be required to support production schedules.
