Kendrick Recruitment is now searching for an Assistant Sommelier for an Award-Wining Eco-Estate on a Nature Reserve near Gansbaai. The Assistant Sommelier plays a crucial role in delivering an exceptional dining experience to our esteemed guests. Working closely with the Head Sommelier, this position is responsible for assisting in the selection, procurement, and presentation of a diverse and curated wine list. The Assistant Sommelier also provides expert guidance to guests in choosing the perfect wine to complement their dining choices. Minimum Requirements:

• Four years of Restaurant Service experience, with at least three years in a fine dining or five-star environment.
• Computer literate.
• Strong knowledge of wines, including regions, varietals, and vintages.
• Certification or formal education in wine studies, preferably WSET Level 2, but Level 3 will be preferred.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with guests and team members.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while maintaining a high level of professionalism.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Present and pour wine for guests, utilizing proper techniques to enhance their overall dining experience.
• Engage with guests to understand their preferences and provide expert recommendations on wine pairings to complement their chosen dishes.
• Ensure all wines are stored, handled, and served following industry standards and hotel policies.
• Offer insights into the characteristics, origins, and nuances of various wines to enhance guest knowledge and appreciation.
• Conduct regular training sessions for restaurant staff to enhance their knowledge of wines, enabling them to offer informed suggestions to guests.
• Stay updated with industry trends and share this knowledge with the team.
• Assist in maintaining the hotel's wine cellar, ensuring proper storage conditions and accurate inventory management.
• Monitor stock levels and collaborate with the Head Sommelier in reordering to maintain optimal inventory levels.
• Collaborate with the Food and Beverage team to plan and execute wine-related events, such as tastings and wine pairing.
• Promote and market the wine program to guests.
