Allesverloren Wine Estate, one of South Africa's most historic and respected wine producers, is seeking an Assistant Farm Manager. The job incumbent will provide operational and administrative support to the Director of Production and Logistics in managing all vineyard-related activities. The role contributes directly to the effective implementation of viticultural practices, sustainable farming initiatives, and coordination of harvest and production processes across the estate.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist with the daily management of vineyard operations, including soil preparation, planting, irrigation, canopy management, pest and disease control, pruning, and harvesting
Supervise and coordinate permanent and seasonal farmworkers to ensure productivity, safety, and quality standards are maintained
Monitor vineyard performance, crop quality, and yield in collaboration with the viticultural and soil consultants
Support the implementation of sustainable vineyard practices aligned with Allesverloren's strategic production objectives
Oversee maintenance of farm infrastructure, vehicles, implements, and irrigation systems
Assist in managing farm inputs, inventory, and logistical activities related to vineyard and harvest operations
Implement and maintain farm-level quality, health, and safety standards in line with statutory and certification requirements (i.e. WIETA)
Maintain accurate operational records and provide input for production and cost reports
Work closely with the cellar and logistics teams to align vineyard and production timelines
Support staff administration, including attendance monitoring, leave records, and skills development initiatives
Contribute to continuous improvement and problem-solving initiatives within the production and logistics environment
REQUIREMENTS:
A tertiary qualification in Viticulture, Agriculture, or a related field will be advantageous
At least 2 years' experience in vineyard or farm management, preferably in the wine industry
Sound knowledge of viticultural practices, irrigation, pest and disease management, and soil health
Mechanical aptitude and ability to oversee maintenance of farm implements and irrigation systems
Strong leadership and people management skills with experience supervising farmworkers
Familiar with statutory (i.e. basic labour and health and safety legislation) and regulatory and certification requirements (i.e. WIETA)
Good administrative and planning abilities, including recordkeeping and stock control
Proficiency in Afrikaans and English with strong communication skills
Valid driver's licence
Willingness to work extended hours during harvest
