The Department of Local Government, Western Cape Government has an opportunity for a suitably qualified and competent individual to co-ordinate, monitor and support disaster risk reduction in order to mitigate the severity and impact of disasters.
Minimum Requirements
An appropriate 3-year National Diploma (equivalent or higher qualification) in Disaster Management and/or Spatial, Town and Development Planning; A minimum of 3 years' relevant experience.
Recommendation
A valid (Code B or higher) driving licence. NB: People with disabilities that restrict driving abilities, but who have reasonable access to transport, may also apply
Key Performance Areas
Ensure developmental disaster risk reduction through the development and maintenance of Disaster Management Chapters in the Integrated Development Plans of municipalities; Ensure the compilation and maintenance of a provincial Disaster Risk Reduction (prevention and mitigation) strategy plan; Assist and support in the annual assessment of disaster Management Chapters from the Integrated Development Plans of municipalities; Assist and support in the management of human resources, finances and performance management in the Sub-directorate; Support Local Government processes.
Competencies
Knowledge of the following: Disaster Management Act (Act 57 of 2002 as amended) and its related policies and guidelines; Understanding of disaster management processes, systems and procedures as applied in all three spheres of government with a specific focus on disaster mitigation; Municipal Structures Act 117 of 1998 and Municipal Systems Act 32 of 2000; Spatial, Town and Development Planning; Municipal integrated development planning processes; Project Management; Financial and supply chain management; Strategic planning. Skills needed: Communication (written and verbal); Disaster risk reduction; Planning and orgainising; Negotiation; Information technonology and Facilitation.
Remuneration
R 468 459 - R 551 823 per annum (Salary level 9)
Note on remuneration in addition to service benefits or obligations for qualifying employees (medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc) are funded or co-funded in terms of the applicable prescripts or collective agreements.
