Job Description

The role of assistant DC manager entails supporting the effective and efficient operation of the distribution centre. It involves assisting the DC Manager in overseeing daily activities, managing personnel, and ensuring the accuracy of inventory. Furthermore, the position requires maintaining productivity, safety, and quality standards within the DC receiving, inventory, and rework departments. This role also includes communication with suppliers, the imports team, and transporters.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the DC across all functions/departments in accordance with standards, policies, and procedures in the absence of the DC Manager
  • Stock Management
  • Communication with the import team (PKL) on daily container placements. Ensure local suppliers adhere to policies and procedures
  • To assist with budget preparation with the Annual Financial Operation Budget and to further control the approved operating budget expenditure
  • Approval of SAP orders/requests in the absence of the DC Manager
  • Update DC reports (metrics/UPM, etc.) in the absence of the DC Manager
  • Align communication with stakeholders in the absence of the DC Manager
  • Attend OHS meetings. Ensure the daily security complement is according to requirements/SLA
  • Be a custodian of the DC culture, values, and principles in line with Pepkor Speciality culture, and entrench a performance-based culture of continuous improvement in the DC in line with company culture
  • People leadership and management skills: Proven track of leading cross-functional teams

  • The overall management of the receiving, inventory, and rework functions
  • Ensure that DC KPIs (receiving) are met
  • Managing the Supervisors responsible for the receiving, inventory, and rework functions
  • Measuring productivity in the receiving, inventory, and rework areas
  • Managing capacity in the receiving, inventory, and rework areas
  • Managing the general admin processes and process flows in the receiving, inventory, and rework areas
  • Checking and reporting on all nonconformances within the above-mentioned areas
  • Set up an action for stock takes in consultation with the DC manager
  • IT issues--to liaise with designated Pepkor IT officials on the occurrence of issues and resolutions
  • HR/IR--to liaise with the HR Manager/DC Manager in regards to Human Resource and industrial relations issues so as to ensure full compliance with Government statutes and Pepkor
