Assistant Category Manager

Job Description

To assist with the strategic planning, development, and execution of category management initiatives. This role is responsible predominantly for driving category growth & assisting the broader product management team to achieve departmental objectives.

Roles and Responsibilities:



Category Management



? Develop and implement category strategies to maximize sales, market share, and profitability.

? Conduct market and competitor analysis to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities. This may entail liaising with customers & the sales team.

? Manage product life cycles including launches, upgrades, and discontinuations.

? Develop annual business plans and promotional calendars for the category.

? Liaise with procurement and supply chain to ensure optimal stock levels. This includes the evaluation of excess stock levels & the running down of this via customer promotions, as well as the evaluation of these activities.

? Initiate required manufacturing change requests & drive process to completion.

? Highlight underperforming categories & initiate & manage plans to improve performance.

Pricing Management



? Conduct monthly pricing benchmarks on relevant categories, & ensure amendment of pricing where required.

Product Packaging Management



? Development of product packaging with suppliers.

Technical Support & Product Expertise



? Provide (or source) technical expertise for product selection, application, and troubleshooting where required.

? Ensure product compliance with industry standards and regulations, & drive the certifi cation process where required.

? Develop and deliver product training to sales teams in collaboration with the marketing & technical teams.

? Work closely with R&D and technical teams for product improvement and innovation.

Miscellaneous



? Assist product leader with ad hoc tasks as required.

Requirements



? Matric OR Equivalent

? A business degree such as Bachelor of Commerce or Equivalent (Marketing specialisation preferred)

? Minimum of 3 years work experience in Category Management / Marketing / Business Analysis environment

? Exposure to and experience in the practice of Marketing

? Ability to learn new systems quickly, e.g. SAP BO reporting

? Ability to reach out to colleagues at all levels & functions of the business

? Good interpersonal skills with regards to query resolution

? Must be able to use Google offi ce tools, e.g. Google Sheets, Slides etc., & MS Offi ce Suite at an "Experienced level". i.e. Word, Outlook, Excel (Intermediate) & PowerPoint,

? Exposure to the plumbing, bathroom and kitchen fittings and fixtures industry (Advantageous)
