A well-known and successful art gallery is seeking a Gallery Manager for their retail operations. You'll have excellent sales experience from a similar industry with the drive and confidence to interface with discerning clients.
You'll be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the art gallery, ensuring the presentation of exhibitions, customer engagement, sales performance, and artist relations are managed professionally and effectively. This role combines strong retail and managerial skills along with an interest in art.
Key Responsibilities:
Gallery Operations
Oversee the day-to-day running of the gallery.
Ensure gallery is clean, well-presented, and aligned with brand/aesthetic standards.
Manage opening and closing procedures, inventory control, and POS systems.
Sales and Customer Service
Welcome and assist visitors, providing detailed information about artworks and artists.
Handle sales transactions and provide after-sales service (e.g. shipping, framing).
Meet and exceed sales targets; compile sales reports for stakeholders.
Exhibition Planning
Collaborate with artists and curators to plan and install exhibitions.
Manage exhibition calendars, promotional events, and gallery openings.
Supervise artwork handling, hanging, labeling, and lighting.
Marketing and Promotion
Promote the gallery and exhibitions via social media, newsletters, and press releases.
Organise and manage private views, launches, and other events to attract clients.
Build relationships with collectors, corporate clients, and the art community.
Staff and Financial Management
Supervise gallery assistants
Manage budgets, invoicing, and financial reporting.
Liaise with artists regarding commission structures and payment terms.
Inventory and Administration
Maintain accurate records of artworks, artists, and sales.
Ensure legal documents like artist agreements and insurance policies are in order.
Use gallery management software or databases for cataloging and sales tracking.
