Gibela Rail Transport Consortium invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the Armature Winders position to be based in Dunnottar, Nigel.

The successful candidate will report to the EPU Manager.

Purpose:

Responsible for the assembly of the wound stator in accordance to the technical documentation (work instructions, drawings and task sequencing). Ensuring that self-inspections are conducted at the various stages of the assembly.

Responsibilities:

  • Assembly of the wound stator according to the technical drawings and work instructions
  • Inserting the slot liners / insulated coils / wedges into the stator laminations
  • Connecting the neutral and UVW connections as defined in the assembly drawings
  • Terminating, cutting and deburring the eyelets, followed by induction brazing and felt / sleeve insulation
  • Performing self-assessment quality checks
  • Adhering to continuous improvement processes and teamwork
  • Promoting strict compliance with EHS rules, PPE, local regulation and AZDP
  • Ensuring that the workstation is orderly with regular monitoring (5S)
  • Detecting and anticipating simple manufacturing anomalies, as well as more complex defects
Technical skills required:
  • Conduct assembly operations according to detailed work instructions
  • Knowledgeable about the wiring of a 3-phase induction motor
  • Understand basic electrical insulation properties and electrical schematics
  • Able to operate hand power tools, slings, drilling machines, grinders and other hand tools related to the job requirement
  • Ability to read, interpret and apply technical documents (work instructions, safety instructions)
  • Versatility and the ability to assimilate different special and critical processes (torque tightening / brazing, balancing)
  • Use of various inspection tools
  • Jig / fixture maintenance
Requirements:
  • Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science or N3 Certificate
  • Armature Winder or Electrical Fitter Trade Test
  • Able to use the crane for assembly operations
  • Minimum of 3 years proven work experience working as an armature winder
  • A solid understanding of stator windings for a 3-phase squirrel cage induction motor
  • Understanding the importance of electrical insulation / earthing / terminations
  • Ability to read and follow assembly drawings / work instructions
  • Can assembly components with the desired levels of quality.
  • Able to complete the assembly operations, after a learning period, within a reasonable timeframe.
