To design and conceptualise infrastructure layouts and architectural plans for the 10,000-capacity beef feedlot and high-throughput abattoir, ensuring that all structures meet functional, environmental, regulatory, and aesthetic standards suited for agricultural and agro-processing operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop conceptual and schematic architectural designs for:
Feedlot structures (pens, water points, feed storage, veterinary areas, offices).
Abattoir infrastructure (slaughtering, processing, cold rooms, packaging, waste handling, staff facilities).
Ensure architectural designs support functionality, animal welfare, environmental efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
Prepare layout drawings for site development including zoning, access, service corridors, and building placement.
Collaborate with civil, structural, and mechanical engineers to integrate architectural design into overall infrastructure planning.
Ensure compliance with applicable building regulations, local planning requirements, and health & safety standards.
Assist in developing visual illustrations and 3D models where necessary for stakeholder engagements and approvals.
Support the costing and budgeting process by providing material specifications and design-related input.
Participate in design reviews, site assessments, and stakeholder consultations.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Architecture (Civil Engineering).
Registered Professional Architect
with the
South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP)
.
Minimum of
5 years of experience
in architectural design, ideally involving
agri-industrial, agro-processing, or infrastructure development
(feedlots, abattoirs, or food production facilities preferred).
Familiarity with design requirements for agricultural and food processing facilities.
Key Skills and Competencies:
Strong design and spatial planning skills.
Proficiency in architectural software (AutoCAD, Revit, ArchiCAD, SketchUp, etc.).
Sound knowledge of building codes, SANS standards, and environmental regulations.
Ability to balance function, cost, sustainability, and visual appeal in design.
Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
Strong attention to detail and creative problem-solving.
Working Conditions:
Based in the Eastern Cape with site visits to Ngqushwa and participation in multi-disciplinary project team sessions.
Desk-based design work combined with periodic field assessments and consultations.
