Your Role & Responsibilities: As an Appliance Repair Service Technician with Assesstech, you will be the technical expert responsible for diagnosing, assessing, and reporting on faults found in a wide range of household appliances and home electronics. Your findings are crucial for the insurance claim assessment process. You will: Expert Diagnosis: Travel to customer homes or work in a workshop setting to meticulously examine household appliances (e.g., refrigerators, washing machines, ovens, dishwashers) and home electronics (e.g., TVs, audio equipment) to pinpoint the cause of malfunctions or breakdowns related to insurance claims. Troubleshooting & Assessment: Effectively triage customer-reported issues, applying logical diagnostic procedures to identify potential problems and determine the root cause of failure for assessment purposes. Hands-On Investigation & Testing: Safely disassemble appliances/electronics, conduct thorough diagnostic tests on components, identify faulty parts, and reassemble units correctly to complete your assessment. Detailed Reporting: Accurately document your findings, clearly explaining the diagnosed fault, the condition of the item, and providing the necessary technical details required for the insurance assessment report. Customer Interaction: Communicate professionally and courteously with customers (policyholders), explaining the assessment process and managing expectations effectively. Tool Proficiency: Maintain and utilize various hand tools, power tools, and specialized diagnostic testing equipment safely and effectively. Required Skills & Qualifications: Essential: Minimum Matric certificate or equivalent qualification. Essential: Valid South African Driver's License & proof of SA ID. Essential: Proven, hands-on work experience as an Appliance Repair Service Technician, Field Service Technician, or a very similar role dealing with household appliances/electronics. Essential: Strong diagnostic and problem-solving abilities with a methodical approach. Essential: Proficient in using standard hand tools and electronic testing equipment (e.g., multimeters). Essential: Physically capable of lifting and maneuvering heavy objects/appliances, potentially with assistance. Essential: Excellent communication skills - must be presentable, well-spoken, and able to interact professionally with customers. Essential: Ability to work independently, manage your time effectively, and complete detailed assessment reports accurately. Beneficial Qualifications: A Technical Certificate or Diploma in Appliance Service/Repairs, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related trade field is highly advantageous. Experience working within an insurance assessment or warranty repair environment is a plus.
