The Role:

As an Anti-Piracy Investigator, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding the digital pay television industry against piracy. Your responsibilities will involve driving anti-piracy countermeasures, conducting ad-hoc investigations, building relationships with judicial and law enforcement agencies, and providing expert advice on broadcast and intellectual property piracy cases. You will also contribute to developing industry standards, collaborating with other operators, and testifying in court on behalf of Multichoice Group. This role requires expertise in investigation and prosecution and a commitment to staying updated with technology advancements and legislative regulations.

Your mission at Irdeto:

  • Driving anti-piracy countermeasures, including conducting raids, combating cybercrime, and initiating criminal and civil litigation.
  • Assisting with and providing advice on broadcast and intellectual property piracy cases received from South Africa and neighboring countries.
  • Building relationships with staff, judicial bodies, and law enforcement agencies in South Africa.
  • Collaborating with other operators to identify and address broadcast piracy issues.
  • Cooperating with law enforcement agencies in various markets to prevent and combat piracy.
  • Monitoring and reporting any piracy-related matters.
  • Testifying in court on behalf of Multichoice Group.
  • Establishing and maintaining an informer network to gather intelligence.
  • Conducting undercover operations and ad-hoc investigations.
  • Monitoring piracy offenders and conducting market analysis.
  • Submitting monthly reports and contributing to anti-piracy projects.
  • Managing risks associated with piracy activities.
How you can add value to the team?
  • 5+ years of experience in investigating and successfully prosecuting crime.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in investigating and successfully prosecuting cybercrime.
  • Strong understanding of legal frameworks, including the Criminal Procedure Act, Copyright Act, The Constitution of South Africa, Regulation of Interception of Communication and Provision of Communication-Related Information Act (RICA), Electronic Communications & Transaction Acts (ECT), and ICASA regulations.
  • Familiarity with SA Court litigation processes.
  • Proficient in investigation principles, report writing, administration, correspondence, and documentation related to anti-piracy activities.
  • PC literate with knowledge of Word, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, MS Access, and other systems.
  • Knowledge of business processes, research methodologies, information management, and the pay television industry.
  • Familiarity with MultiChoice products and services, anti-piracy tools and techniques, and intellectual property rights.
  • Possess essential behavioral competencies such as effective communication, assertiveness, tact, flexibility, relationship building, time management, organizing and planning skills, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
Essential Qualifications:
  • NQF level 6 (Diploma).
  • Strong forensic/investigative experience.
  • Completion of a detective learning program or relevant qualifications in resolving crime and forensic investigation.
  • Knowledge of organized crime.
  • Relevant tertiary education in the investigation of crime.
  • Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) certification would be advantageous.
