Job Description

ERA Ewaste Recycling Authority NPC is searching for a motivated and experienced Accounting Officer to guarantee that our daily financial transactions are recorded accurately. You will be responsible for ensuring that all financial transactions are recorded timeously, reconciled, reported monthly via management accounts, and posted to the relevant folders within the organisational archive. Your role will also be to liaise with our external auditors during our annual financial audit to ensure that annual financial statements are produced accurately and timeously. You will equip ERA Management with financial tracking information that will enable sound financial decision making for the company.

The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator, with high numeracy aptitude, analytical skills, and an attention to detail. Out of necessity you need to be a team player able to operate in a multi-disciplinary team and be able to take and carry out instructions issued by management.

Key responsibilities:



Process monthly journals, reconciliations, and financial reports, including monthly management accounts.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date general ledger records

Update internal systems with financial data.

Record and check debtor invoices, statements of accounts and payments for accuracy.

Invoices Out - Accounts receivable (+VAT)

Maintain a system for organising debtors records.

Running statements of account for producers / service providers.

Balance subsidiary accounts by reconciling entries.

Review subsidiary accounts for accuracy and completeness.

Record and check creditor invoices, statements of accounts and payments for accuracy.

Invoices in - accounts payable (+VAT)

Maintain a system for organising creditors records.

Process monthly payroll and ensure accurate salary payments and statutory deductions.

Manage all statutory submissions (SARS, UIF, COIDA, PAYE, SDL, etc.)

Prepare and submit VAT returns and other statutory reports

Drive external audit processing by providing necessary documentation as and when required.

Support Financial reporting.

Support annual regulatory performance reporting (e.g., environmental compliance, B-BBEE

Assist in preparing budgets and financial forecasts

Record bank deposits and payments.

Aligning financial controls with Accountants and internal Auditors.

Perform variance analysis and management reporting

Ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal controls

Maintain and reconcile fixed asset registers

Assist with cash flow management and reporting

Provide financial insights to support decision-making

Provide guidance and support to junior administrative staff (where applicable)



Knowledge and skills:

Minimum requirements and core skills:



Relevant tertiary qualification in Bookkeeping, Accounting, Finance, or equivalent

Proven experience (minimum 3 years) in bookkeeping and management accounting

Sage Pastel payroll processing

Proven experience with statutory reporting - SARS, UIF, COIDA, PAYE, SDL, VAT, etc.

Proficient in pastel accounting software and MS Office, particularly MS Excel

Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting

Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to guide and mentor others

High attention to detail and strong analytical skills

Excellent organizational and time-management abilities

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.

Knowledge of B-BBEE principles and requirements will be an advantage.

Additional information:



This is an in-office role based in Claremont, Cape Town.
